Movement dial upgrade kits appear to be real — coming in January

By Danthrax, in X-Wing

I'll want to see how well the dials can be swapped, first, but if they work well, I would probably go in for two sets per faction, right off.

I like how sturdy they seem and they appear to eliminate the problems that will eventually occur with worn dials.

An unnecessary luxury item, for sure, but I'm playing the long game here and would like to be able to play the game for years to come without worrying over-much about the cardboard componants.

For casual games, these look like they would make it crazy easy to make up a custom dial for special occasions, as well.

I could not afford buying one for each dial. I can't imagine that for just one faction. I don't have that kind of money. I can see getting some for whatever are my favorite of the moment and swapping them out when I change.

That's a bad idea to sticker your dials like that. Someone could note the position of the sticker and look where the view slot is and tell what your maneuver is.

You should instead put a circular sticker on the plastic rivet and put the abbreviated ship type on that if it's really a problem.

It could be nice for those few ships that you always use. Doesn't everyone have at least one favorite pilot that they like to put in most lists? Maybe you have 3 pilots that you like to use often enough that you would get the packs? Doesn't have to be all of your ships, but just the ones you use on a regular basis.

Or maybe it's for the generics that you often use. It would be easier to tell them apart.

Some weeks I feel like quad TLT, others 5x Autoceptor.

Oh, didn't think of sticker placement. That's a good thought. Well, it also matters where the front is, too. I can always place it with sticker facing me and it might not be noticeable. I'll try it tonight.

Not to gripe on a dead topic... but

AND NO NEW DAMAGE DECKS SOLD SEPARATELY!!!

I cant say these interest me at all.

Personally i think they look cheap and awful and i'd rather have card dials.

Part of me thinks all this coloured bases and dial housing shebang is FFG starting to actually run out of viable ships to release for the game.

Right, because the design and development team are the ones who are diverting their attention away from new ship designs to order plastic bases with different dyes in them.

My dials are already starting to wear out. But I'm cheap so I'll just buy more toys.

If anything is having an affect on FFG talking about new Star Wars stuff right now, it's "licencor approval" issues. LFL doesn't want any slips so close to the release of TFA.

No, thats not what im saying at all.

What i am saying is that there are not that many more recognisable and popular ships left to do until we see stuff in either rebels or the new movies.

But they still have to have new releases and product out. If you can't release more ships because you can't find many more decent ones it makes sense to expand your inventory of 'accessory items'

Either way they are still ugly and unnecessary :)

How do they look "cheap" exactly? They actually look a lot better than the third party plastic ones that were available on Kickstarter not too long ago.

I like the designs and think they should have been this way from the start. But one thing they don't solve is the wear and tear on the dial part with maneuver choices. FFG needs to come out with replacement dial packs next (IE the cardboard punch outs that go in these things).

To me they just look like something you'd find in a cornflakes packet as a free gift. I dont think they look good, its just my opinion.

I've been playing this game pretty much weekly for about two years and i dont think *any* of my dials are wearing out, it might be that im using different ships a lot, it might be that i dont clip mine together as tightly as some people. Either way I personally have better things to spend my money on than tarting up a playing piece :)

nvm

it would have been cooler to see these as prize support instead of those ridiculous coins which really serve no purpose. I'd like to meet the staff member who came out at a meeting with this idea.

For everyone being happy with them only being plastic and no physical dials: I would have loved they added new dials. And it wouldn't unbalance the game if done properly.

For example, think of along the lines of the following:

- T-65B X-wing. Title. X-wing only. 0 points. You may use the T-65B X-wing dial instead of the standard X-wing dial.

- TIE Defender X1. Modification. Tie Defender only. 1 point. You may use the Tie Defender X1 dial instead of the standard Tie Defender dial.

- A-wing Ace. Title 1 point. A-wing only. You may use the A-wing Ace dial instead of the standard Tie Defender dial. In addition you gain the benefit of ... blablabla

Easy. Doesn't invalidate any of your previous purchases. Just adds more options and makes the game more interested. Point costs are 0 points for different (but not superior dial), 1-4 points for superior dial (depending on the differences), and even negative points for an inferior dial (think of the possibilities :P).

Babs out!

If these dials are thicker then the standard ones will i need a bigger plano case just for dials? Seeing all the moves isn't such a bad idea but i like to play epic games and my lists for those would need four or five packs. Maybe ill try and home brew some using a 3d printer.

If i buy a set id probably wanna paint and weather them though so they pop a bit more on the table.
