Spirit-Tactics Mirror jank

By Gizlivadi, in Strategy and deck-building

Spirit Tactics is the combination I enjoy the least, even though it's pretty good, so i decided to make a different deck this time, not just aggro but a combo deck. The idea is pretty simple: get the Mirror and the Harp on Galadriel as soon as possible, and fetch your combo pieces such as Elf-friend + Rivendell Blade, Resourceful + Gondorian Fire + Blood of Númenor, Vilya + Cloak of Lórien, Captain of Gondor, etc. to make Boromir into a killing machine. Almost all the cards in the deck are really cheap, so the idea is to play them as quickly as possible. It doesn't look really cohesive, but it actually works really good. I would love to hear your suggestions to make this deck better (other than Glorfindel + LoV, as he's in my Treebeard deck).

Song of wisdom and burning brand. Boromir fears nothing.

Thanks! Totally forgot about that one!

Quite the jank deck! I wonder about Gondorian Fire and Blood of Numenor. There is no resource generation for Boromir other than a possibly-full-price resourceful. Doesn't seem like those cards would be able to do much.

Do you find Elf Friend worth it just for Rivendell Blade and Cloak of Lorien? Your threat should be fairly low, so Dagger of Westernesse is often going to be as effective as Rivendell Blade. Cloak of Lorien is nice, but Gondorian Shield, Arwen, Captain of Gondor, and Honour Guards are probably enough.

You are right Teamjimby, as the title suggests this is more or less a bunch of cards mindlessly thrown together. I haven't made use of Gondorian Fire and Blood of Numenor yet, but it's hard to give them up when both cost 0, even if Resourceful costs 4. Still, I am aware of the risk, and I'll decide to keep it or not after a few more games.

Elf-friend is a total star in this deck. I don't have much problem in getting it early, if not in my opening hand, so just being able to slap a Rivendell Blade on Boromir without trouble is really cool. Dagger of Westernesse is an option, but even with the threat reduction my threat eventually gets high, so the Blade is more reliable in the long run. Same thing goes for Cloak of Lorien. Looking at the recent enemies, Boromir needs all the defense he can get.

I know it requires you to get Nenya first, but fast hitch is just superior to hobbit pony in every way.

Well, also, Hobbit Pony is 0 cost and retrievable with Westfold Horsebreeder. Obviously less flexible than Fast Hitch, but it's not like it's USELESS.

That's a solid point about being able to search it. I hadn't considered that. But with fast hitch you get to use him for both each turn as opposed to one or the other.

Doesn't Brandon from CotR podcast play a similar deck? You could check his version and compare.

Indeed, this is a very Brandony deck, hero-wise at least. I'll check it out.

I've seen similar decks with Glorfindel instead of Merry, which are very very powerful. Horn of Gondor can also be used to help pile up resources on Boromir.

Trade merry for spiritfindel plus secret vigil, asfaloth, and Elronds counsel. Lower threat and better quest. Also this way get your elven attachements in play without elf friend. If you still don't have enough threat reduction, add double back. Also you should consider something like protector of lorien to rid yourself of all those unused attachements. Great deck. Funny thing is I was just working on a Boromir Galadriel combo when I spotted this. Thanks for the great deck ideas. :)

I am actually consideting buying another copy of Foundations of Stone just to add Glorfindel without having to remove him from my other deck.

Good idea. Just found out you cannot recomit Boromir to quests. Boromir deck ruined for life, hate lotr lcg right now.

What do you mean, recommit to quests?

Seems like he thought a character committed to the quest but readied could then commit to the quest again for double (or more in Boromir's case) Willpower.

You got it! Pretty much ruins two years lotr lcg for me. I basically have to start over. uuuuuuuuuuuuumgh. I geuss it what i get for being stupid.

Didn't you find this game too easy? With Galadriel boosting Boromir up to 5 willpower and having him commit 3-4 times per round for 20 willpower you must have just blown through this game.

Now you get to re-experience the game with higher difficulty!

Now I'm curious... if you got the Light on Glorfindel, could he quest for infinite?

Small update: I just did this.

Mmm.. i made some confetti ( http://www.duden.de/_media_/full/K/Konfetti-201020377841.jpg ) out of some different colored papers. After that each card gets one color-confetti referring to the deck it is in. The cheaper method for me.
