TIE Rear canon.....

I thought Ass Cannon was already a thing for Scum.

I had a thought at the weekend. Seeing as the Ghost is going to have a rear arc that only works when the Phantom is docked, how about the Special Forces TIE has a rear arc, but can only be used if you have a turret upgrade equipped.

I think that's the only way it'll work in game terms without it seeming over-powered and under-costed.

I think I like "only if a crew is equipped," more.

Still not sure how a rear arc on a small ship tile will work.

I was under the impression that only the special forces TIEs had those turrets. I think it will be a new ship we get to buy that has a different model, different paint job, and a rear arc on a small base.

Yeah exactly my point. We will see it as a new ship, but won't just HAVE a rear arc. I think there'll be something you have to equip to use it (like the Ghost).

Whetehr it's a crew or turret or cannon upgrade (or even a title) we shall see.

Models by other companies indicate the special forces tie has a very different body than the TIE/FO we have, although that isn't easy to spot in a lo-res .gif file or most streams. The engine assemblies are very different, there's an added sensor/comms system on one side, there are a number of added details to the wings that might suggest additional functionality, and the engines are massive compared to a normal TIE.

So odds are good the Specforces tie will make it into Wave 10.

Absolutely! I've got my McroMachines Special Forces TIE right here in front of me and it's quite different from the TIE/fo we got in the new core set.

That is the SF TIE in the .gif. It's got the red markings on the cockpit and the "cogs" on the wing roots.

I'm kinda of expecting a 3 attack to the front and a 2 attack to the rear that doesn't require any upgrades. Firesprays don't need an upgrade for the rear arc to work. If it's an upgrade would they still print a rear arc on the ship token?

I doubt there'll be a brand new sculpt for the Special Forces TI/Fo. There's not a lot of small base niches left for the Empire, especially in the under 20pt bracket. Including the Inquisitor TIE, you'll have TIE L/N, TIE Interceptor, TIE/FO, TIE Advanced, and TIE Adv. Prototype.

I expect it'll be easier to give it the Royal Guard Tie treatment in an Aces box somewhere down the line.

Have you seen the SF TIE? There's a giant toy for it, Wal mart has a shirt for it. Revell has a new snap-tite model kit for it. Micromachines has one. Hot Wheels put out a die-cast one. It's featured in the movie quite a bit from what we have seen so far. It would be crazy not to release a separate ship for it. FFG is not allergic to money.

They are for the Ghost!

Indications are that it's a little bigger and a good bit different as far as upgrades should go.

Maybe it could be a title that adds a crew slot and a rear arc, or a crew and turret...

But I think they'll want to offer a few more toys for the sub-faction.

I didn't realize how crazy low they were.

Good eyes man. I've probably watched the trailer 100x and didn't notice the ass cannon.

Thanks i have basical paused every frame on you tube... there are some other cool thing like mandalorian paintings and what looks like a firefly class ship in the back ground

Here is what i proposed for the ship in a different thread:

Here is my take on the TIE:SF(cog)

Attack 4

Agility 3

Hull 3

Shield 1

Target lock; focus; barrel roll; evade

Tech; System; Crew upgrade

New crew upgrade

Tail Gunner

TIE only

Action

Lower your primary attack by two. when an enemy ship touches your base, you may make a primary weapon attack on that target.

This means that the TIE/SF could make more than one attack, but at two dice. Couple this with intimidation Elite Talent and you have a decent blocker.

- This removes the need for a turret upgrade, which many feel doesn't work thematically on the tie.

- Costs an action, but if the ship places well, it is worth it.

- Wouldn't have to worry about secondary arcs on the base plate

- crew slot provides options

- ship will be glass cannon or point sink if fully equipped to maximise four red attack

- advanced sensors, intimidation and tail gunner could be very fun

Now, if 3 dice attack is figured for the TIE/SF, here is how i would work my Tail Gunner card:

Action: lower primary arttack by one. Any ship your base touches, you may make a 1 attack die primary attack.

Now, in the clip the ships are not touching for those that will point it out. Remember, the ships in the clip are not on plastic pegs with square bases. The idea of the Tail Gunner crew allows the TIE to be great blocker, something TIEs excel at, and is a simple way to facilitate rear firing on a small vessel without having to do a secondary arc (which may be hard to print on a small base token) or cannon slot.

Interesting take on the that rear turret. It's like Anti-Pursuit Lasers for TIEs, only slightly better.

You do realize, though, that the TIE Phantom can take this upgrade too, right?

no upgrade card... whole new ship. (please, FFG)

This would be ok with me:

Sp.Forces TIE Fighter

2attack (w/rear aux arc), 3agility, 3hull, 3shield

TL, Focus, Barrel Roll, Evade

Systems, Cannon, Missle, Crew, Tech

+TIE Co-pilot crew card *SpForces TIE only

(allows 2 shots per round at 6+ points)

+Sp.Forces TIE title card

(allows additional mod upgrade at zero points)

If they up the point cost it should balance out even with fancy guns.. Think glass cannon.

I don't. I just want the SF TIE to have an auxiliary rear firing arc.

Otherwise, it's just Anti-Pursuit Lasers.

I doubt there'll be a brand new sculpt for the Special Forces TI/Fo.

The tie/FO got a whole new model, there is absolutely no chance that the tie/cog, which has a lot more differences, won't as well.

2 attack

3 evade

4 health

1 shield

same dial as the FO maybe?

I wish I wasnt just so **** busy and would be able to actually play x-wing or armada... Maybe winter break... :/
