Good/fun elite talent pairs for Tycho Celchu

By Covered in Weasels, in X-Wing

Tycho Celchu is an exceptionally fun pilot to fly. I recently bought the Rebel Aces pack, so I'm looking at possible second elite talents for Tycho. Before now I've found it hard to justify anything besides Push the Limit on him because so many other stress-related talents are limited in some way. For example, Elusiveness specifically days that it cannot be used if you have a stress token.

What talent pairs to you enjoy equipping to Tycho? I'm not a competitive X-Wing player, so I'm more interested in fun builds rather than ruthlessly effective ones. However, if a fun combination happens to be competitive I won't complain :P

If you have the new Core Set, give PtL and Wired a whirl. Tycho can take action shenanigans to the next level and get re-rolls!

PtL + Daredevil, or Psycho Tycho, is one of the most maneuverable ships in the entire game.

Outmaneuver and PtL are also great on him!

Veteran Instincts is always good on the A Wing Aces as it usually allows them to move last and dodge the arcs of other ships. Also, Outmaneuver is really really good on A Wings.

Push the Limit and

  • Wired- I think I could probably stop here. Use Wired.
  • Daredevil- if you want movement shenanigans
  • Juke- Not sold on this one yet but who knows
  • Expert Handling- maybe?
  • Lightning reflexes- with the ability to turn around and still focus/target

Go nuts! Could even pop on VI to make sure you move last.

Experimental Interface and Autothrusters are both mods- You can only take one

Tycho and his good ol' Royal Guard A-wing. XD.

Seriously though... PTL and DD is a blast! Both to fly and to watch that stress stack grow to ABSURD levels.

I ran Tycho with expert handling, daredevil, experimental interface, and prockets the other night. Was a lot of fun.

The wired suggestion may be worth a playtest.

PtL and Calculation are nice as well, getting a crit through.

I like the idea of Lightning Reflexes on Tycho, because 0-K-turns are amusing. Similarly, Tetran Cowall with Adrenaline Rush.

Unless you're using EI+Daredevil, but that means no autothrusters or turtling which is less than ideal. Still kind of amusing, though.

I'm a fan of Chardaan's Royal Test A-Wing.

I haven't seen anyone mention it yet, but Tycho with PtL, Crackshot, and Prockets is just vicious. The days of A-wings not being able to deal enough damage to justify their cost is over, my friends.

Expert Handling is a definite winner. BR + the occasional added bonus of losing a target lock? Yes please.

Tycho seems like a great home for Wired.

I haven't gotten to play with this yet butwired would pair nicely with PtL / Autothrusters or daredevil / experimental interface.

And love the crackshot idea, @ Hero

Expert handling doesn't work if you're already stressed. In other words, not really a great fit for Tycho "Permastress" Celchu.

EDIT: nevermind, I'm retarded

Yes, yes it does.

ACTION: Perform a free barrel roll action. If you do not have the barrel rollaction icon, receive 1 stress token.

You may then remove 1 enemy target lock from your ship.

Okay, I see where you're getting that on Cowall, but how would you pull it off on Tycho? 2-forward, LR, boost gets a 1K, but Tycho's only 1-speed maneuvers are turns.

It's not a complete 180, but you can do a hard-1, dump Reflexes, then Boost back toward your original position. You'll be off by 45 degrees, though.

Oh my Sith, I'm retarded. I was mixing up Expert Handling's wording with Elusiveness. I can't believe it- for AGES I have been bypassing EH on Tycho because I thought he couldn't use it! Wow, Herowannabe, just wow.

PTL is a proven auto-include. We're only wondering about what to play alongside it.

  • Wired supplies far more worth than its points through its nigh-guaranteed buffs to both Damage and Mitigation. It's slightly worse than the vaunted Lone Wolf, but it will be active, irrespective of how you fly your other ships.
  • Juke is like a lesser Outmaneuver, in that its action-dependent, but improves your damage by lowering their defense.
  • As mentioned, Lone Wolf is slightly better than Wired, in that it stacks better with Focus Tokens and has slightly better odds with Green Dice... but only if you can guarantee that Celchu as a Flanker is going to stay a set distance from the rest of your fleet.
  • Expert Handling allows for insane mobility on him, along with the added defense of removing Target Locks off of your speedy behind.
  • Outmaneuver is an interesting way to improve your damage, in that it doesn't actually suffer from diminishing returns.
  • Daredevil is the most potent repositional action in the game, and Tycho suffers from none of its downsides.

Notably, NONE of these are bad upgrades, or even sub-optimal.

It's all pilot preference here.

I prefer Expert Handling to Daredevil on Psycho Tycho because I'm so used to playing PtL Interceptors and abusing the Boost/Barrel Roll combo.

Veteran Instincts and Squad Leader.

He's the only PS 10 squad leader in the game. Tell Dutch to TL Soontier after soont moves, have someone Expert handling away from vader's ATC, whatever you want.

Airen Cracken's pilot ability is better for this.

She's also good, but she needs a shot (so not vs Soont) and her range of effect is limited. Tycho also has the Awing's agility and autothrusters to support his survivability.
