Where's the new stuff on Bookdepository.com?

By simon.neech, in News

Bookdepository has always been a dependable source for all my FF games. It had reasonable prices and instead of having absolutely criminally insane shipping prices (I'm looking at you, US postal service), it was instead FREE ! Usually they would list new FF games months in advance and have them for sale as soon as they are available elsewhere. Lately however, they seem to not list any new upcoming FF products or even products that have been released weeks ago. I asked their customer support and they didn't seem to know anything, even after I supplied the ISBN's for the specific products I was after.

So will bookdepository.com stock FF stuff anymore? I need to know so I can start making other arrangements to reinforce my Battlelore army and Star Wars fleet!

Reinforcements should be available (got mine one month ago or so), and I bought quite a few X-Wing ships no later than two weeks ago. Today I received Rhudaur for LotR and The Great Devourer for WH40K Conquest, so, I'd say they work fine. Sometimes, on some articles, they have a 2-week delay on the US market, but that's it

I got some of the new Battlelore expansions but the latest undead packs are nowhere to be seen. You can try it with all the big new releases like Mission: Red Planet and there is no mention of them. They have products up until a month or so ago but search by ISBN and no new stuff seems to be in the pipeline. The Force Awakens X-wing core set isn't even there, and if they don't stock that: problem confirmed!

Still can't seem to find the force awakens core on BookDepository. Anyone else had any luck?

No, nothing still and I've been checking on a daily basis! No new stuff at all and if they won't stock the super popular Force Awakens core set, there is not much hope for anything else.

That was listed prior to when they stopped stocking new stuff. Since they stopped, no new Fantasy Flight stock has been listed. For example: they don't have X-wing Force Awakens core set, and that would be a no-brainer inclusion.

So there have been NO new listings.

"Eldritch Horror: Under the Pyramids" is not listed at book depository either.

What a shame :(

Hopefully they keep pushing LOTRLCG packs, for now...

Received this same reply from book depository today - looks like it's all over for new stuff from BD.

Hello Frank,I am afraid we no longer list these titles. The makers have stopped using ISBNs for their games, and assigned different product codes which our website does not recognize and therefore cannot list. We’re looking forward to make changes to our site in order to recognize the new product coding in the future.Thank you. Looks like I will have to start sourcing a new supplier for my FFG games - this also means I will be paying an average 30% more for FFG games, which may have me looking at other game companies...

There is also a nasty thread over on BGG that outlines a new supply chain policy from Asmodee and FFG which has meant that distribution will become an increasing issue with online suppliers.

Not impressed.

Does mean there's hope for it to come back in the near future. I'm hoping that the gaming sales are enough for them to promote them directly and not in among the books as they are now.

Source books probably still use ISBN codes - it would seem that baordgames have changed.

I must admit, that has left me with a bad taste in my mouth about FFG - I've even had that momentary thought 'Do I still want to collect this LCG...?' - That's not a good sign.

Fingers crossed it is as they say and simply a coding issue.

When just listing FFG games, newest first, I see unreleased Star Wars stuff. So it looks like they're still getting something. I noticed a lack of LotR LCG items though.

I've been collecting and playing LOTR LCG for a few years now, and as many people here BD was a fantastic source of FFG product.

I emailed them about the latest LOTR release (Grey Havens) a month or so before it was released to see if it would be stocked on their website. My answer was, "Of course we will continue to stock LOTR products. We just haven't had any news from the supplier regarding this product yet."

Grey Havens has been released for about a month or so now, and it's still not on BD. Seems fishy..

It's a little disappointing that nothing new seems to appear, but I'll keep ordering what I don't have until they run out due to the excellent service I've received from them.

I think internationally, this was the first part of the strangulation of online retailers plan that's getting into full swing in the USA come April 1st, as reported on in the BGG retailer forums. Somehow by both restricting online sales and making them more expensive, FFG (or Asmodee) actually believe brick and mortar stores are going to be better off. Somehow magically on April 1st, my FLGS will no longer be a 40min drive away, it will be completely cleansed of its BO smell and have staff with actual social skills!

With increased costs and less online options I'll clearly have to buy less but the FFG Marketing guy, Anton Torres claims he would rather 'purchase only one or two games a year from FFG than buy ten that will sit in his closet'. Bizarrely, he's decided what's best for everyone! But mission accomplished at least for me. Since being discouraged by bookdepository.com non availability and learning of the upcoming policy change, I've weened myself off new X-wing miniatures, didn't buy the last 2 Battlelore expansions and decided to skip the new Game of Thrones LCG altogether.

But having said that, they got me on the Star Wars Rebellion and I'll still throw my wallet at any Forbidden Stars expansions.

That is so much BS it's not funny! If you go & check the FFG catalogue, new items still have a ISBN.

I tried emailing BD about this several times earlier in the year & got the run around. Complete avoidance of the question & nothing even vaguely resembling a straight answer. Closest I got was "it's not on our system, so I can't tell you anything about it".

I suspect it's more Asmodee's ridiculous new distribution policy & they don't want to admit it for some odd reason.

The reply I got last time I asked them was that the supplier hasn't given them anything newer. If it's going to be harder for me to order FFG stuff I guess it's going to be harder for me to buy any.

I just recently found out about this. I was wondering why new stuff does not appear on BD anymore.

This is double screw over for me: Having consumed the source material (lotr, asoiaf, sw, lovecraft) of ffg's main product lines in English, obviously I'd prefer to play the games in the same language. Living in non-English Europe, however, this means either paying 1.5 to 2 times the US MSRP at my "friendly" LGS, paying very expensive shipping rates (equaling the price I pay at the FLGS) or playing some translated version (which feels awkward as hell). BD was my only way out of this. FFG gracefully this option from me...

In the beginning I was very upset, but as a consequence I stopped buying lotr, ANR and AH lcg (did not even start that atually) plus several expansions to MOM and AH, because as a customer they kicked me in the face once too many. I work in the marketing of big insurance company and we go out of our way to optmize customer satisfaction and omnichannel management (off- and online retailing and such). It seems the difference when selling a push-product ,such as insurance, is that you can't screw your customers like ffg does.

Anyway, in the end it turned out fine. Being deprived of reasonable ways to buy their games, I turned to the more unreasonable ones: Free Online Play! I can keep playing their games online just fine without owning the cards and don't even pay a dime for it atm. I'd rather give my money to patreons and donations for people that care, honestly. Hell, I kept buying all this stuff from ffg despite barely being able to play it due to a lack of time.

Should ffg/asmodee/whoever (what does the customer care?!?!) come to their senses and allow me to purchase their products WHERE AND WHEN I WANT (as everybody else does) then I'll immediately resume purchasing all those games and lcgs. I'll even buy all the stuff I missed and take a bath in all the cardboard goodness.

As somenody much wiser than me said: You can fool somebody sometimes, but you can't fool all the people all the time.

Btw, I did write to BD, just to inquire. This is their response:

Do we have any other options (sites) that are selling board games with free shipping?
