Scarlet Whisper

By KillingTime, in X-Wing

Kath Scarlet (50)

VI, Mangler, Rebel Captive, Andrasta, Ion Bombs x2

Whisper (41)

VI, FCS, ACD, Tactician

Thoughts?

The plan is obviously for massed stress board control, with the firespray hopefully tanking enough for Whisper to pivot off it, and both ships delivering enough damage to make it quick and painless.

Any obvious flaws?

I've got 9 points left for hull/shield/stealth on Kath, maybe a 3rd ion bomb, and a chunky PS9 initiative bid.

You can't blow up the Firespray that much, it is a bad idea. If you want a two ship list, take a Decimator, which can actually be effective (if annoying as hell) at the close to 60 point level. Drop the Ion Bombs for a TIE Fighter.

I did think that - but I'm not really sold on the decimator so I'll definitely stick with Kath.

Do you think a solitary TIE offers more than the bombs? Basically I see it's just there as a blocker, as it offers so little in the way of damage.

I've done a two ship list with the Firespray before it can work, that was scum Kath though.

A solitary TIE may not pay off. But if I find I have almost enough points left for a TIE, and I'm not sure what to do with them, then either I need the TIE or I need to rethink the list.

Firesprays need an engine upgrade.

And I think gunner is a much better fit on whisper then tactician. Also gunner is kinda needed on Kath to use her ability.

Kath, predator, gunner, mangler, engine, ion bomb 56

Whsiper, fcs, acd, vi, gunner 44

Might do well vs brobots, but I wouldn't expect much out of it in the current meta.

It's not really meant to be an ultra-competitive anti-meta list, just something fun.

I can certainly see the utility of gunner, especially on Kath. Not convinced the firespray need the engine upgrade though. And the point of the list is to spam stress tokens, so I'd rather keep at least one of rebel captive or tactician otherwise it all starts to look a bit cookie cutter.

Dropping all the bombs for a TIE is still something I'm chewing over.

I'll second the vote for an engine upgrade. Being able to arc dodge, being able to keep up with Whisper's mobility, both those things will be huge for Kath. Also, it'll let you get out to range three with her, maximizing your cannon's usefulness and keeping her alive longer. On top of that, ion and stress with both force your opponent into taking shorter maneuvers, which means you'll be better able to dodge out of arcs with that engine upgrade.

With your build, you've got a list that should be a lot of fun to fly and a pain to fly against. I'd be a little concerned with how few red dice and how few hit points are in there, but you're playing for those hit points to stretch a long way. I'm curious to hear how it goes.

Mara Jade on Whisper can be fun. The phantom likes to get up close and personal and Mara then stresses out all enemy ships in range 1. 3 points, same as Rebel Captive.

I thought about Mara Jade, but in the end went for cards that could double (or even triple) stress. Mara is a bit wasted if the target is already stressed from rebel captive, Kath and tactician.

Well worth another thought though.

I see what you mean about engine upgrade. I'll give it a go.
