Ackbar is, understandably, sounding like the Rebel Wave 2 favourite. But he's not without competition for the role. Dodonna's in line for a lot of use with the additional access to criticals in Wave 2, so here's my take on him:
REBEL FLEET (399 points)
1 • MC80 Command Cruiser - General Dodonna - Raymus Antilles - Boosted Comms - Electronic Countermeasures (144)
2 • MC30c Torpedo Frigate - Ordnance Experts - Assault Proton Torpedoes (72)
3 • MC30c Torpedo Frigate - Ordnance Experts - Assault Proton Torpedoes (72)
4 • CR90 Corellian Corvette B - Dodonna's Pride (45)
5 • Luke Skywalker X-wing Squadron (20)
6 • Y-wing Squadron (10)
7 • Y-wing Squadron (10)
8 • X-wing Squadron (13)
9 • X-wing Squadron (13)
10 • Objectives - Precision Strike - Contested Outpost - Dangerous Territory (0)
Hiding Dodonna on the MC80 keeps him safe, and that ship provides me with plenty of access to squad activation.
Luke, Dodonna's Pride and both MC30s can put face-up cards onto ships regardless of shields, and Dodonna ensures they're effective.
I'm half way to talking myself into swapping an X-Wing for a HWK-290 to get some Intel on the go, allowing Luke in particular to leap past enemy squadrons and start fishing for crits.
Objectives all suit me pretty well. Precision Strikes is an obvious choice, I've got loads of crits ignoring shields, can choose a "flip-down" crit using Dodonna then flip it back up with hits from the MC80, any of the other fighters, or even spare dice that the other ships are throwing. Dangerous Territory means they'll have to land on asteroids and take the Dodonna damage if they want to compete on the objectives. Contested Outpost means my MC80 doesn't have to worry about catching anything as they'll need to come to me.
On the other hand, should be equally happy as first player. MC30s will be able to take advantage of activating first to keep the black dice in range.
I'd like to get the MC30 titles in there to protect them getting into range, but at 8pts each I don't really see anything I'm willing to drop to make room for them. Happy to be shown otherwise though if someone's got a bright idea!
So how do we feel, is there room in the Rebel fleet for a commander other than Ackbar? Or in turning down those bonus red dice am I falling into some kind of trap?
