4 tie bomber list

By Isophane, in X-Wing Squad Lists

hello everyone. i was thinking of a way to use tie bombers and I want to get your opinions regarding this. first off, here is the proposed list:

TIE Bomber: ยท Captain Jonus (22) Adrenaline Rush (1) XX-23 S-Thread Tracers (1) XX-23 S-Thread Tracers

TIE Bomber: Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) Plasma Torpedoes (3) Extra Munitions (2) Cluster Missiles (4)

TIE Bomber: Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) Plasma Torpedoes (3) Extra Munitions (2) Cluster Missiles (4)

TIE Bomber: Scimitar Squadron Pilot (16) Plasma Torpedoes (3) Extra Munitions (2) Cluster Missiles (4)

So the idea behind this build is to have a really strong jousting bomber list. I have dice at range 3 and can reroll up to 2 dice. at range 1-2, each bomber shoots 3 x2dice with rerolls again. While flying past each other, capt jonus can treat the red k turn as white, launch the tracers, thus allowing the other bombers to let loose another salvo.

any thoughts or comments?

fyi I know the tracers arent out yet. but I do plan on getting thr inquisitor when it comes out :)

I have a very similar list, except I gave Jonus Determination instead of Adrenaline Rush, and I gave the Scimitars Advanced Homing Missiles instead of Plasma Torpedoes. Thinking of mixing and matching the Plasmas and the AHMs to be more effective against various lists.

The best thing this has going for it is that people have all but forgotten about the bombers and you will throw their normal and comfortable tactics straight out the window.

I don't know, AHMs and Plasma Torps are good against the same targets, seems redundant to mix them. The range 3 attack is more usefull I think, at range 2 you already can use the Cluster Missiles.

Seeing as tracers arent out yet you can sub in Ion Pulse Missiles for that oh #&%! moment when you hit a juicy target.

I've run 4 Tie Bombers during the last store championship and have a lot of experience with them. I highly suggest you look up Darkhorse's article on Tie Bombers. Just google DARKHORSE TIE BOMBER and it should show up. It's great.

He had a similar list with Jonus and I ran one very close to what he did. Watch the YouTube video on THE RULE OF 11 to help learn pacing on approach. Get close, but just out of firing range. Then, you zip in as fast as you can go to grab the TL. They can't concentrate their fire at you are too close. Maybe they bump you. Next turn, you drop Seismic Charges and 5 K-turn to be behind them with your TL.

I was the only person undefeated going into Final Fours with this approach.

Since Extra Munitions is out, I don't see a need for Jonus. He's a weak link in your list. He will be targeted quickly and focus fired out. I found you can drop Jonus and give all your Tie Bombers Homing Missiles instead. It actually works better than Jonus as he only allows you to re-roll 2. They also can't use an Evade.

There are ways to get a TL with low PS, but you have to play smart. I think it's better to get Homing Missiles and ME instead of Jonus.

I can see this working.

I've got a tournament report somewhere that goes through all my games with pictures. I was able to kill an Outrider in one round since he landed on 3 bombs and got hit with 2 missiles.

I saw nearly this exact list been taken out badly by Mu0n. But, that's Mu0n... I think it needs to be flown VERY well and hope the alpha strike is enough. I can bet you at least 1 bomber isn't making the second pass.

Suggestion:

Give Jonus Shield upgrade

Take only 1 type of ordnance on each bomber (plasma on one and Jonas, cluster on two)

Take extra munitions on Jonus

Give one Ion Bomb.

The concept is that you can do your pass, fire, then when it's time to K-turn for a second round, Jonas is alive hopefully with the help of a shield, you can ion your opponents depending where they went, and then you can shoot off your second volley. At that point you have 3 or 4 bombers left with an Ioned enemy to finish off.

When I played Jonus before, I always found it important to give him a Shield.

I'm also happy that there are no more crits that destroy secondary weapons.

I am new to X-Wing but have had a lot of fun with 4 TIE Bomber lists. Lots of HP and with extra munitions they can be really quite good at wrecking stuff in an alpha strike without becoming "one hit wonders". And people just aren't expecting bombs. Assault Missiles can be amazing against swarms and synergy lists... especially if you have multiple TIEs firing in salvo.

Bombers are still bombers.

I love them and so does my buddy

However they sure have a hard time catching high ps ships, especially with maneuverability

Just threw this together.

Gamma Squadron Pilot (18)
Extra Munitions (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Seismic Charges (2)

Every bomber goes at PS4, (after the TLT swarm and BBXXZ, and init toss against EPT Ties), has 2 rounds of HLC fire (with bonus shield damage), and can make Kturning behind them far more dangerous than it's worth

^ fun, and not as vulnerable to range-rushing due to the presence of 4/8 Seismics.

I really like the above list, I'm going to try it myself.
