Did anyone else notice the HWK tail at 0:25?
That's an AT-AT 'toe'
Probably as seen from Rey's 'home' -
Got my hopes up but yeah I can see that now.

Haven't had a chance to read that novel yet.

It's great. Covers from before Rebellion to after Battle of Jakku

Who does he kill there?Oh god

How could those bastards do it
Chewy
Definitely not chewy. The Bandolier is all wrong. Although good point about the first order maybe invading kashyykk,
X-wing at 1:35 is firing with the same sound effect as the Firespray and the B-wing from the new Rebels trailer as far as I can tell.
I guess what I'm saying is that the "young guy starts a seemingly doomed fight against evil tyrant with the help of an old and wise mentor" trope is popular (see: Eragon, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter)...
Star Wars was explicitly shaped after Lucas started digging into the field of comparative mythology in general and Joseph Campbell's The Hero With A Thousand Faces in particular. According to Campbell, the trope you've identified is ancient and nearly universal in human societies.
There are a million stories that start out that way: the hero is shaken out of the complacency of regular life, and a wise mentor with hidden powers provides the hero with the knowledge or help to fulfill his or her destiny.
It's built into folklore, the same way the number three is, and it would be just as difficult to avoid. And there are already so many variations on it floating around in the world that I'm confident that the screenwriters can find a way to make the new movies feel just different enough from the old ones--in the same way that Lord of the Rings feels distinct from Harry Potter.
Edited by Vorpal SwordI must see this. The ship battles look amazing and many in atmosphere. Hope FFG takes lots of notes.
Also - Is anyone else concerned that Poe may turn at some point? Kylo is definitely doing something to him when he is presumably captured, and the black/orange paint job might be a sign that he goes bad since it looks like they are all flying the Blue scheme at some point.
I hope not myself - So far I like Poe the best of the new heroes. Although maybe him going bad would make me like him more... hmmm... =)
I really don't think so. My thinking is that him being captured and tortured is at the start, ans that's what causes Finn to escape the First Order.
And I see Poe as the new Han Solo of the trilogy. Not force-sensitive, and a bit cocky and smug. But defo not turning to the First Order.

Interesting notion, considering someone spotted the black and orange x-wing firing green lasers on some merchandising earlier this week.
But the trailer has Poe getting out of that ship at the resistance base in a scene that looks an awfully lot like the set up just before the big climax fight.
Am I the only one that gets a little emotional on these trailers when the John Williams music kicks in?

Same here. The new beat sounds really militaristic.
And then, it's a couple of decades later, there's a new Empire in charge, the gargantuan space battles from the past are a LEGEND, there's no Rebellion and its heroes are now hermits because... reasons?
Well, in fact it's stranger that the end of ROTJ is as triumphant as it is currently portrayed. The empire has lost it's Emperor, Vader and the Death Star II. It still has millions of troops, thousands of ships, immense resources and firepower, as huge command structure with a new power vacuum and a presence in much of the galaxy.
In A New Hope at the Empire council meeting Grand Moff Tarkin announces that the Emperor had disbanded the senate and given regional control and power to the local governors. Obviously some of those governors are not going to just bow down to a pack of rebel scum and the once all spanning Republic, then Empire, has fragmented back into feudalism. This First Order must have arisen out of one of those remaining Empire systems and the Resistance has become limited by the distrust of centralised power and subsequent desertion of other systems.

Indeed. Basically the plot of Star Wars Uprising (the mobile Diablo-type game) in a nutshell.
I'm actually thinking that Finn isn't a stormtrooper at all. I'm thinking he escapes from the Empire in a stolen Stormtrooper disguise, and in a stolen Special Forces TIE Fighter. Why else would he have a leather jacket? Stormtroopers don't usually have those.... or do they?
EDIT - Makes me wonder if there was too much focus on Form over Function here? If you were Finn, and were escaping to a Tatooine-Esque Desert Planet - would the ONE thing you bring with you, be a leather jacket?! lol
Edited by CrabbokIt's Poe's jacket.
"I was raised to do ONE thing" he says.

The part about Finn that has be curious is his statement, "I was raised to do one thing." He sounds like a clone...
And that scene with him just wearing the black under-suit holding the jacket. You're right. That doesn't look like First Order military issue,
It's Poe's jacket.
"I was raised to do ONE thing" he says.
"And I've got nothing to fight for."
Which implies that fighting is the one thing he was raised to do.
Hence my theory that Poe is on that Star Destroyer at the start, Finn finally sees what the First Order is really about and capable of and decides to split with Poe.
Maybe the First Order has been taking kids and raising them to be troops? Or they've kept their real intentions hidden and young people sign up thinking it's cool and this is the first time Finn has seen how bad they are.

Eeyup. So he's no Rebel Spy. Just an Imperial turncoat.
Haha. Turncoat. He gets a new coat.
He's like "My Name is Finn Katarn. My Father sent me here to infiltrate this Star Destroyer and liberate some confiscated spice. You killed my Father, Prepare to die".

There is a scene in the "Behind the Scenes" video from Comic Con (?) that shows a FO trooper escorting a (suspected) Rebel down a hallway. I can't tell if that's Poe or not, but the Rebel is wearing a jacket that looks just like the one Finn has in the new trailer.
EDIT - Makes me wonder if there was too much focus on Form over Function here?
This is generally the case with TFA.
I build stuff with Lego. One of the side-effects is that I look at things from a perspective of "what's holding this together behind the shell". Check out how they've removed the armour systems on the back of the new trooper armour. The surface details are still there but there's no way they fit anything behind them.

It would have taken a miracle to reinstate the Galactic Senate, even if it was only disbanded 4 years before Endor. It had already lost much of its power under the Empire. The New Republic would have had an uphill battle the whole way.
I don't think the Resistence is all that's left of the New Republic though, probably just a small part of it fighting the First Order in the Outer Rim. But I guess we have less than 2 months to find out.

Those chunky pieces on the back of ST armour sure would have made it uncomfortable to sit in a seat or ride in most vehicles. Maybe the new stuff is designed with that in mind, and either dispensed with the old (whatever was under that protruding box thing) or integrated it into the armour more fully and without the pressumed need for maintenance or access. Or the designers of the new suits wanted to make them 'modern' without regard for utility. It could go either way.
Do we even know what that 'backpack' on the armour was for anyway? We never see hoses connected to it or anything that looks like it fits it in any way. Did the STs on Tatooine with the big honking back packs use the armour 'backpack' as a connection point? What about the 'space troopers' outside the docking bay on the first DS, was their external backpack connected to armour using the protrusion 'box' as well?
