Say I buy 1 pack of each and end up with 9 of these dials. If I use alternate means of marking the ships and dials that correspond to them, do we think it will be legal to use the imperial color upgrade with a rebel dial? scum color upgrade with imperial dial?

How many do you think per side for Epic?

I believe all factions now have a 12 point and a 15 point ship, so that means currently it would be no more than 22 dials (10 of the 12s and 12 of the 15s gets you exactly 300).

So, 8 packs per faction, yes?

I don't think I'm that into Epic

Fair enough. But it seems a lot easier to spend $240 on ships than on dials. Different strokes for different folks.

Yes $240 on dials is over kill for me. But if they are really reusable and you can pop the cardboard in and out maybe I'll get a few. I supply both sides for Epic no ship will have a 12 ship swarm. Most will be 2-4 max except for the TIE L/n maxed out at 8. I'm also a little concerned with storage space. Right now I have everything tucked away neatly in two cases. I like the idea of gaining space but having only the cardboard dial without the hub or swivel top. But I need to think how I'd store these and if I want to. Even if I went with 15 ships a side that's 30 dials and 10 packs total. So about $100 MSRP. With a decent discount maybe that isn't bad.

Still it may come down to how flexible at interchanging ships they are. I'm certainly not purchasing one for everyone of my ships. That would be awfully expensive not to mention a storage nightmare. So maybe one pack each for a test run and see how that work and feel. Or perhaps I'll just want for everyone's reviews.

I just have one concern: when I use my current dial, I hold it with both hands and just twist the "back" portion of it. As a result, the back portion is what receives the most wear and tear, which I'm ok with. With this new design, won't the wear and tear happen directly on the movement/speed design? You roll the inner circle, right?

EDIT: nevermind, I just realized you can turn it by rubbind the edge.

Seems doubtful but maybe.

I don't see why not. The've already ruled that dial faction doesn't need to match ship faction.

I'm hoping that this opens the way for third party dial "upgrades".

I will maybe upgrade my favorite faction. But not sure it makes sense to upgrade everything.

Thinking about it more, the best use of these that I can see is just to make it easier for tinkerers to make custom dials for custom ships.

I really have a hard time seeing any point beyond that.

Given my notion up above of using these for aces and leaving the generics cardboard, I wonder how difficult it will be to replace the ship ID sillouette with a picture of the pilot.

Alternately, if someone did replace basically all their dials with these, I wonder if you could add ID numbers to those windows to match dials to ID tombstones on the ship bases.

Another possible use... Custom dials for custom ships and pilots. Will we be able to create our own dials that will fit in these and have the right amount of tightness to be rotatable, but not loose?

These all seem pretty possible.

The ship icons are probably going to be cardboard tokens similar to the ship number tokens we have now, so adding the pilot's photo would be as easy as covering the ship icon token with the photo.

Same thing with numbers - probably will be able to just glue/tape/paint/whatever numbers on top of the ship icon tokens.

This will make custom dials super easy! Since we no longer need the top that says what ship the dial goes to, we can now print custom dials on label paper and stick them to a spare dial. Custom dials will be pretty easy to make look just like real dials.

Hrm. I never bothered varnishing all my dials... but I might have to get a pot of the stuff and re-enforce the cardboard edges.
