Movement dial upgrade kit picture.

I'll definitely be getting some of these.

Have just been discussing these with mazz0, If FFG play this cleverly they'll start including them with all new expansions going forwards. I reckon if they do that a lot of people will buy one for each of their existing ships rather than just a handful to cover whatever squad they're playing.

Why is the back of the card part of the X-Wing dial red? Is there maybe another layer of plastic to protect the card for our greasy fingers?

Edit: Ah, never mind, @Richard_Thomas_ just pointed out it's pretty much the same colour the backs of the rebels dials already are (must just be the light).

Think they're gonna sell them divided up per faction, or in packs with some of each in?

Some people only play a single faction. Can you imagine the kicking off if people were forced to buy 3 of these for every 1 that they actually wanted.

They'll definitely be sold in faction specific packs.

Not a fan of purely cosmetic add-ons, especially if they are bulky.

But cosmetics is such a big part of the game!

These would be great,

If I wanted my dials to fill even more.

If I hadn't already protected my dials with bookbinding film.

If they had been in the core game.

If they had been released two years ago.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of these at all. I was expecting a clear acrylic front plate that would replace the cardboard front plate.

So after the talk of marking your dials symmetrically in the tournament rules, we get non-symmetric dial backers?

I'm guessing that if the dial upgrades are real, these aren't it.

Just looking at the picture I don't see anything that identifies them as actually coming from FFG.

I haven't seen the original reddit post so possible if they are going to be made that it's a 3rd party add on.

So long as there are no marks on the edge of the front piece it make no difference.

Hmmm, I'll give these a pass. I've already protected my dials with spray varnish and a nylon washer as a spacer between the two dials. I don't need or want something that would require me to undo what I've done that has worked for me since the game started.

I hope they have a tool to pull the old dial apart, because mine a stuck tight. the last one I tried to pull apart, bend the cardboard dial.

No kidding. These, the playmats and the colored bases should have been on the market in fall 2013. I have no idea what's taken FFG so long. It's a little late in the game (figuratively and literally?) to put out companion products like these.

The difference is that the spinning part of the dial is covered with these. With the standard dials the part that shows towards your opponent is backside of the piece with the maneuvers.

However, if we want to worry about that, then I can see similar situations with these. The way that pointer looks, it sure seems you will use your thumb to rotate it, which means that your thumb will point roughly at your maneuver when selecting it. Hey, look at that, when his thumb pointed toward that cutout portion, he did a 4K. Now I can roughly guess his maneuver speeds from now on based upon where his thumb points. Aside from this, some of us like to rotate our dials to the orientation of the ship just to make sure we are turning the right way to avoid dumb mistakes. Holding these dials that way is going to reveal at least that you are turning/banking.

I like em. I figure I will store just the cardboard backs and save PLENTY of space. Just another assembly task before a match like slappin' ships together and sorting tokens. Doesn't seem like a hassle and I don't think anyone will spend a fortune to buy one for every dial they own, unless OCD has it's way.

I'll probably only a max of 4 each, unless I fly a swarm or play epic. So maybe 4 Empire, 4 Rebel and 8 Scum (I'm gonna beef up my Scum fleet this Winter)

I get it, I really do. I always thought that concerns of asymmetric markings were overblown for regular dials anyway.

I think the cardboard rotates within the plastic housing while the pointer always points toward the open space. The command dials in Armada have a similar style.

I really like these. Not sure how difficult/realistic it would be to switch them out constantly, but who am kidding? I'd probably buy more than necessary.

I do somewhat wish the face just had the Rebel/Resistance/Imperial/FirstOrder/Scum symbols

Hopefully true. Love pimping my gaming stuff.

I'm curious. Will we need one for every dial we currently own or will they allow popping our existing dials in and out?

I marked the back of all my dials with the ship name they correlate to. This means that if the back of the dial is exposed through any kind of window it would reveal my maneuver to my opponent. Bummer.

I think you are missing something about how these work. None of the plastic parts move. The cardboard disk in side the shell is what moves.

It looks like the back of the dial is completely covered. I don't think the X-Wing silhouette is a window, I'm guessing that's a sticker.

I don't think these come with the cardboard portion. You'll pop out your existing dials and add into these upgrade kits.
