A trailer that deserves its own thread.

To hell with Battlefront, give me a new Tie Fighter game!

>no space combat

Yeah for some reason the video game developers seem to think the title is Planet Wars not Star Wars. Is it really so hard to give the space combat fans among the fanbase some attention?

As an Elite: Dangerous player, and somebody who played the crap out of Battlefront II's space battles...

No huge loss. You shouldn't have a Star Wars space battle without some kind of "Playing field". Not in a game like this. In X-Wing? It's cool- go ahead. But in an arcadey type, you're just going to do tons of loop battles.

It's preferable to have surfaces to dive inbetween, in and out of, and so on.

But less complaining, more trailer.

Speaking as a fan of X-wing and Tie Fighter, I'm not bothered by the lack of space combat- I'd rather that get it's own dedicated game than be tacked onto Battlefront.

But there's a compromise, however: People who don't want to buy the game without space combat: Don't. Vote with your wallet. But then, find some place to e-mail the devs and say why you didn't buy the game. Meanwhile, people who do buy the game can play the heck out of dogfighting, and clamor for a Space Combat DLC or separate game (Preferably the latter. Having to shift from Joystick to Keyboard+mouse would get annoying).

Enough people do this, and we could convince EA to fund Tie Fighter 2. Or at least an updated rerelease.

Also, a Death Star space battle map would be most welcome. Especially if it were objective based, almost exactly like Rogue Squadron II's was.

It'd be a HUGE map.

... That's be perfect for a dedicated dogfighting map since you actually do have a ground, actually.

You are correct, it does deserve it's own thread....In the off topic board.

What I took away from that trailer is : If you think there is an x-wing hovering outside your office, smash the window and leap out of a skyscraper...

BTW: Can an X-wing actualy hover like that?

Wouldn't it!?

I need to hit up GS and cancel my deluxe order. I'll get a base copy. Maybe. Joe is right about EA sucking gamers dry while offering <1/2 a game. Games like this, Destiny and Titanfall that almost cannot be played solo because they design it as multiplayer only from the start. At least CoD has/had(been a while since I had a CoD game so don't know it it still does) a solo campaign to give you something to do when your interwebs were down or server mantainence or shut down for lack of players because a new game came out.

They did have a space level during the early stages of development but it just didn't work. First complaints was that the invisible border of the playing field wasn't obvious, it was too small, felt like a box and then feedback was to add asteroids to provide cover, however the previous complaints were not solvable. You cannot have endless field of space and then put a grid on it.

Eventually, it was scraped and an idea of the trench run was knocked about but no thematic and controllable way to make it user friendly was conceived. If the trench is open 24/7, you have 20 X- wings bunched together and firing non stop. Counter? 20 TIES ramming them.

When they tried making it so it was only opened once a number of enemy respawn "tickets" was depleted and only the top three players went in to the trench, it was deemed unfair as some more casual gamers would never make the run.

Then you have the great debate "WHY IS THERE NO DEFENDER!!?? / WHY IS THERE A DEFENDER AT YAVIN??11) Why can't I attack the Neb B? Why doesn't the Star Destroyer do something? Why do I only ever spawn in the middle of nowhere / spawn in a Star Destroyer so far away from the battle?

So after all that, it was terminated. However, there will be a space battle. Just wait for the film to come out first so they can release the content.
