Advice on Missions

By Katarn, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

I really don't expect much from this fleet but I think it could be decent once I get the hang of it. I basically just went for ships and squadrons that I like. That said, there's a lot of flexibility in the force which fits my general playstyle: they're very manoeuvrable and I have a total of 7 squadron command with Raymus' bonus token, so I should be able to keep my squadrons spread out to avoid a swarm of ties.

I'm thinking the general plan will be to neutralise the enemy squadrons, take out a lighter ship and then scarper. Hit and run works for me because I have little interest in tabling an opponent- if nothing else I don't have the funds to optimise a force very well. But I sort of like that- if I win against and ISD or MC80 with a motley selection of small ships and fighters I probably did quite well. If nothing else, it should look like a rebel fleet- a very mixed selection of fighters, a freighter, a stolen imperial grey Nebulon etc.

While I have been against the idea of using named pilots, I'm thinking that keeping the numbers low and having defence tokens will lighten my overall losses. Generic squadrons go down very fast in my experience and with a rebel force going all generic only gets me a couple of extra squadrons which would be beyond my command capacity in any case.

With that in mind, what missions do you guys think could work here?

Tantive IV

Raymus Antilles

Mon Mothma

Corvette A 46

Jaina’s Light

Nebulon B Escort Frigate 75

Salvation

Intel Officer

Nav Team

Nebulon B Escort Frigate 66

Yavaris

Fighters 126

Dutch Vandar

Jan Ors

Wedge Antilles

Tycho Celchu

X Wing Squadron

B Wing Squadron

H6 Bomber

YT 1300

Total- 397

Red - this one is tough. I would go with Most Wanted (and choose Jaina's Light as the objective ship). Precision strike would be my back-up.

Yellow - Fleet Ambush (you don't have enough firepower or command for fire lanes or contested outpost).

Blue - Superior Positions or Minefields (Intel Sweep would be a trap here as the opponent would just intercept your ship).

Just be careful; you have the capability of being tabled relatively easily given your fragile ships.

Red: Most Wanted

Yellow: Hyperspace Ass

Blue: Superior Pos

Red: Most Wanted

Yellow: Hyperspace Ass

Blue: Superior Pos

Something like this gets my vote.

Jaina's Light can hide during Most Wanted while you throw extra dice at whatever their big scary smash-face ship is (Salvation, Demolisher, ISD, etc). Another option could be Opening Salvo, you've got enough ships you're unlikely to be outnumbered on it, and the bonus points for damaging ships helps against big ISDs and MC80s.

Hyperspace Assault is good, it lets you warp in the Yavaris and some bombers to hand out some damage without needing to close on them first.

And Superior Positions with that many squads and your fast Corvettes shouldn't be a problem. Your opponent wants to get into the flank of your Neb-Bs anyway, so it's not like that's going to change with this objective.

The Red is the only one that's up for debate really, but I'd think extra careful (not saying DON'T, just think twice) before going Opening Salvo - giving a Reb player all those reds on top of his fistfuls of reds...could mean long-range accuracy doom for such a light fleet. Superior Positions is also any option, but I think this light fleet needs all the help it can get cracking the opponent's ships.

Good point really, I know when my Rebels are up as first player I'm always happy to see Opening Salvo amongst the options.

Cheers for the help guys.

I think most wanted will work well. I'm also considering precision strike though- I have a decent number of light attacks, so being able to flip cards and get points for criticals could see me get a fair number of points without having to actually destroy a large ship. Even if the damage is repaired, I still get the points.

Hyperspace assault seems my best option for yellow.

I like the deployment in superior positions but I'm worried that when I flyby or peel off with a Nebulon B I'm giving away points by exposing their rears. Has anyone had much success with dangerous territory?
