Black Squadron T-70 X-Wing is more than just a cool paint job.

I've seen two images lately that reveal that the Black & Orange T-70 in TFA fires GREEN lasers like TIE fighters. One was on an official throw pillow and the other on a shirt. These could be an error in merchandising details, but maybe not. I have yet see any other images of the laser cannons firing the classic red beams. (If I'm not mistaken, aren't the green lasers more reliable, a bit stronger and more expensive than the red lasers- according to SW lore?)

So now I'm feeling good about the Black Squadron X-wings packing a bigger punch than the standard T-70's. Probably will be a seperate expansion rather than in an Aces pack unless FFG gives it Title/Restricted Mod upgrades. Still hoping it cloaks or has built in stealth device. BUT , I'm thinking this will give a +1 Attack dice or similar bonus.

Any opinions on what this means or how it would impact the game?

For one thing, it means you have to use the green side of the range ruler when measuring range from the black and orange T-70.

+1 Attack seems overkill.

However, making hits turn to crits, that would actually be neat. Partially because you're still rolling 3 die but it just hurts that much more when it hits.

I think it's the quality of the gas used. Higher quality gives green while lower quality gives red.

I think this might make sense.

Black Squadron is rumored to be an elite / special forces type unit. Giving them the highest quality lasers might make sense.

The rebellion and resistance use mostly lower quality gas, so the majority of their ships and fighters will use this.

Of course, the real reason for the difference is probably just to differentiate them.

It would make Etahn sadder than he already is.

Maybe built in sensor jammer?

The laser color rules:(not really, just observation)

Galactic government (republic, empire, ect) get to use green lasers on their ships, their enemy usually uses red.

All ground forces use red. Hand held fire arms usually use red. Stun beam is blue (this is not a 'laser blast')

The rebels may have kept using red after they took over the Galaxy, or might have switched to green on some of the newer ships. At any rate the First Order seems to use green because that's what their heroes the Empire used.

Who knows. It's all crazy. I'm sure it really desktop matter other than ease of identifying who is shooting at what for the audience.

For whatever reason, this all just reminds me how bad I want a DC-15 Rifle in Battlefront.

In general the darker the laser beam the more powerful it is. If you had laser weapons, all of them each projecting a beam but each was a diffrent color, and you fed the correct amount of power into each projector so that every beam will emitted will travel the same exact distance before scattering, the darkest ones will be the most powerful.

You need more energy to make darker light travel farther. All that being said, just because the lasers are green that doesn't mean they are instantly more powerful than red lasers.

If I recall correctly, weren't the green ones capable of being fired faster, more energy efficient, and had less heat issues?

At the cost of power, mind. That's how it always seemed.

So where do blue and purple lasers fit in then?

I don't recall anything like that actually stated in the lore - it seems like fanon to me.

Naboo forces had green handheld blasters (the Queen's, for example) - Mandalorians, at least early in TCW, had yellow (as did characters in the Ewok Adventures movies).

Poe's lasers are red; he fires in the new trailer.
