The Shadow Rune vs Heirs Of Blood

By Bresker, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

For the moment I own the base game and Heirs of Blood.

We play the shadow rune to learn the rules. But my heroes seem a little stumped by the same quests over and over.

We played

1. A Fat Goblin : I won , it was going sideways but when I had Frederick , all I had to do was Dash away.

2. A Masquerades Ball : I won, Encounter 1 (2 saved and they had a terrible throw) and well Encounter 2 was easy as ever

3. First Blood : I let them win without any search tokens.

But again it is a chase game.

We want more challenge. For me as well because in both scenario's I never felt the urge to spend cards on Encounter 1 so I can herd cards for Encounter 2.

So my question : does Heirs Of Blood offer more challenge the Shadow Rune.

they have Grisbane(Berserker), Leoric(Necromance), Alvright(Disciple) and Jain (WildLander).

I go for saboteur.

I have not played Heirs of Blood, so I can't speak to that. However, Masquerade Ball is a pretty OL heavy map, it's not surprising you're winning that one easily. I am a bit surprised you're winning First Blood so strongly- that one usually goes the heroes' way. Are they utilizing their actions well? I recommend giving "Castle Daerion" and/or "Death on the Wing" a go. The heroes will probably have an easier time winning them (make sure you play with the corrected rules in the FAQ document.)

Are you doing these maps in epic play style, with the heroes starting with 3XP and 150 gold each? If you're not, as a single session I'd recommend it.

The second one was with 3 heroes and i used a shadow dragon but he missed like 4 times in a row (heroes felt sad for me but forgot to block my exit so i could pass through, use 2 moves and 1 dash.... )

Masquerade was maybe a poor choice but on the other hand , they let encounter 1 take forever so that i had like 10 cards in my hand. (yeah that many). (Now they suggest i should play those cards more but thats the problem, i never felt the urge to do so.

We are playing campaign.

I mainly try to slow em down , i avoid attacking Grisbane (he choose counterattack) and kill skelet almost every time (corpse blast could hurt/kill several monsters) . But there Alvright is doing to little, they almost never use heal or whatever, and maybe one rest action through the course of the game....

Since "prayer of healing" doesn't take an action, I'm curious why they aren't using it more. Especially after 3 quests, they should have the XP in all of those classes to have some good skill benefits.

My group seem to have the same issue - they fatigue move a lot, and hardly ever take rest. Heroes are always in a rush and that makes them easy prey, cause they dont have enough stamina to use their skills to the fullest

I adviced them once to rest, and spare some stamina for the future, but they decided that Im just trolling them ^_^
