4 Nebulon B 'Jousting' List

By DeadEyeJedi, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

OK, so first up I would like to try and make an all Neb-B list that workes because i love the models. Secondly, I have an opponent who likes to run VSD carrier + Glad with the Rhymer ball, and so rather than take a squadron heavy list to counter (which he will expect) I was thinking to surprise him and try to joust the VSD to death in one head on pass, maybe losing a Neb-B in doing so but tear the heart out of the Rhymer Ball and just scoot off into the inky black yonder for the rest of the game spaming shields. Does this list make that possible?

Nebulon Support Frigate
-General Dodonna
-Raymus Antilles
-Salvation
-XX9 Turbolasers
-Engineering Team

Nebulon Support Frigate
-Redemption
-Heavy Turbolasers
-Engineering Team

Nebulon Support Frigate
-Heavy Turbolasers
-Engineering Team

Nebulon Support Frigate
-Heavy Turbolasers
-Engineering Team

A-Wing Squadron

300pts total

Missions:

Opening Salvo / Hyperspace Assault / Minefields

Looking to go second - plan woud be to start at speed three, head straight at the VSD. Bank Concentrate Fire token first round, go to Concentrate Fire command second (if VSD in range, otherwise bank engineering token) for 4 x 4 red dice plus the reroll (+ two black if opening salvo), then Engineering Command third round to make good any damage suffered.

Heavy Turbolasers help to mitigate defense token, while the XX9, Redemption and Dondonna make the most of any crits. Raymus, Salvation and Engineering teams make the Nebs a bit more durable if i need to come around for a second pass.

Any Thoughts?

The problem is the biggest advantage of the Nebulon is there titles ,without them they have a decent front arc firepower but they are not so great. ESPECIALLY without squadrons to engage enemy bomber, the very mobile rhymer ball will have an easy time flanking your very weak side arc.

The second problem is that you went full repair and spend a lot of pts into those engineering teams , but your ship are so squishy that you probably won't have the opportunity to repair them before they get destroyed.

I also don't understand the choice of the Heavy Turbolaser Turret since it is in the actual meta one of the worst upgrade in the game (IMO), you should much rather play something like X-17 to block redirect or XX9 for more crit which is sweet with Dodonna as you pointed out. It will also be a lot more convenient for you since the HTT is in the ISD expansion (not even released yet) and the X-17 is in the Nebulon expansion.

Do you play the Support Refit variant or the Escort Frigate , you just mixed up both names so how can I know which one you picked?!

The Escort frigate is better for squadron support or if you lack on anti squadrons fire power, the Support Refit is better for anything else.

If you really like the Nebulon I advice you to take one with salvation and one with Yavaris combined with some B-wings, but without title they're not great IMO. The redemption one is really nice in a fleet like this, but is a lot more specialized and need a lot of things to make it work.

Heavy Turbolasers are wave 2 ya? So why is this list built for 300? Not trying to be a jerk here, just confused.

How about something like this?

=====================

Nebulon-B Frigate: Nebulon-B Support Refit (51 + 26)

+ General Dodonna (20)

+ XI7 Turbolasers (6)

Nebulon-B Frigate: Nebulon-B Support Refit (51 + 11)

+ XI7 Turbolasers (6)

+ Yavaris (5)

Nebulon-B Frigate: Nebulon-B Support Refit (51 + 14)

+ XI7 Turbolasers (6)

+ Redemption (8)

Nebulon-B Frigate: Nebulon-B Support Refit (51 + 12)

+ XX-9 Turbolasers (5)

+ Salvation (7)

Squadrons: B-wing Squadron (14)

Squadrons: B-wing Squadron (14)

Objectives Defense: Hyperspace assault (0)

Objectives Assault: Opening Salvo (0)

Objectives Navigation: Minefields (0)

I have tried this. The bane of your existence is going to be assault frigates. If you can't kill that glad, there's a strong chance he can wipe out enough of the nebulon b frigates to doom you. Remember, he can probably get away with killing your general and 1 other and he wins outright. If he kills just your general and the a wing he probably loses with a 5-5.

I have tried a 4 neb b list and the results were substandard to say the least. Those side arcs are both garbage and vulnerable. Granted, its going to be a blast to play, you just won't win.

Nebs don't actually joust

Nebs poke

Salvation sometimes jousts

B-wings joust

Basically, forget about making anything other than Salvation into a long range railgun; they're not going to cut it. The strength of the Neb is in its versatility (decent range, very solid nav chart except at speed one, decent squadron value, decent anti-squadron surprisingly decent durability between two braces)

If you want to actually murder things on the approach, well then you need to play Gladiators (the other gray Neb) or B-wings.

imo, 4 Nebs is simply not going to work at 300. you can fit in 2 Nebs and 2 CR-90s with the requisite B-wings, or 3 Nebs. At 400? no problem. Might even have room for 5.
