Days out From First Tourney, Running Super Dash

By JarJarBot, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I've decided for my first tournament coming up this week to run the 58 Super Dash Special. I'm commited to that build for Dash ( EU, HLC, Outrider, Kyle, PtL) clocking in at 58 points. My trouble is filling the remaining 42 points and would like help/ideas/suggestions!

Possible Wingmen:

Corran

-FCS

-VI

-R2-D2

Or

2x Rookie X-Wings

Or

Horton Salm

-2x protons

-Engine Upgrade

-Ion Cannon Turret

Or

2x Prototype pilot

-Proton rockets

-Munitions Failsafe

Once more any ideas/thoughts/opinions/help welcomed!'

I used to run two rookies. Would do really well. Just have to have flying dash down pact.

While I do like Horton Salm with Proton Torpedoes, I do think he can be a bit better, especially these days (Extra Munitions for a start). Here's an idea:

Horton Salm (25)

+ Twin Laser Turret (6)

+ Shield Upgrade (4)

+ R5-P9 (3)

+ Bomb Loadout (0)

+ Seismic Charges (2)
+ Extra Munitions (2)

As swarms are a great predator of 2-ship lists, double Seismic Charges at PS 8 can be useful. Between the Shield Upgrade and R5-P9, Horton should stick around a while, too. Just Focus and hang onto it until the end of the turn, every turn, because Salm's own ability can make the TLT shots pretty accurate. Just something I threw together quick, as I've always liked "Super Dash" and you got me wondering what Horton might look like as a wingman!

I say go with the classic Dash+Corran.

Dash's unparalleled maneuverability means he can be an excellent blocker, which can set up Corran for a perfect double tap. Not to mention he's a mean SOB all on his own.

Also, if either Corran or Dash goes down, you can still pull of a win against larger lists. If Dash goes down early and you're stuck with two Rookies, I think you'd regret it (well, on top of regretting losing Dash early, which is generally not advised).

Yeah, I've pretty much got Dash down maneuvering wise and I do like Corran and did win my play tests when I used him and even forgot about his ability nearly every game, just wasn't used to him yet hehe. And that Horton build looks pretty sweet, thanks guys.

Also, if it helps, there will be about 8 of us at the tournament and I'm pretty confident that I know what the usual top 4, from what I heard, are running. A TIE Swarm (he has 5 TIEs and 2 TIE/fo though so maybe mini swarm with something), Oicunn+Whisper, Palpmobile+Fel+Vader and a Fat Han (not sure what the wingmen are on this one though).

The classic problem with Corran + Dash remains that you have no control elements besides your maneuverability, therefor no answer for the likes of Whisper, Fel, or Vader. The only way you can remedy this is by forcing weight of dice on your opponent by means of Dash shooting and Corran double tapping the same target the same turn to get 10-12 red dice on target, hopefully causing damage.

From this group, Whisper is the real problem. Fel now being your biggest friend either, but he tends to want to sneak into the donut hole, and is capable of doing so, which is a good thing -- keep Corran pointed at said hole and he can ruin even Dodge-Master-Flex's day.

Vader isn't really an issue here, because he can't benefit from ATs. So he's even more invested in finding the donut hole, which should be Corran's (or any allied ship, realy) killing field.

And, if they go for Corran first, they're taking 4 dice attacks from any range. 4 dice will EVENTUALLY blast through even a cloaked Phantom... Though, yeah, I still think a well-piloted Whisper would be the biggest threat for this list.

I'm kinda glad Whisper is considered my bigger threat because I play tested against the Oicunn+Whisper list on Saturday and beat him without losing either Dash or Corran and Whisper was first killed. The Palp build worried me most, I played against him Friday with a different build and Palpatine + Sensor Jammer really got me, I know to hit that shuttle fast and hard off the bat now.

my favorite 42 point Rebel is:

Keyan Farlander 29

PTL 3

HLC 7

B-wing Crew Mod 1

Jan Ors Crew 2

Not necessarily the most competitive build but sure is fun if the other ships in your list have a bigger target on their head than he does :)

So tournaments tomorrow and there's going to be 10 total. My friend and I are going to get some play tests in before it starts tomorrow for each of us to try our alt builds out to figure out which of our top 2 builds to play. Super Dash + Corran seems to be my number one right now, number 2;

Chewbacca 42

Push the Limit (3)

Recon Specialist (3)

Gunner (5)

Millenium Falcon (1)

Leebo 34

Determination (1)

Mangler Cannon (4)

Jan Ors (2)

Outrider (5)

I'm going to see how this second list plays out and determine which one I'll be running, I'll update in this topic what list I ran and how the tournament goes! Thanks everyone! ( Feel free to comment on the Chewbo list, too!)

I run 2400/1300 like this

YT-1300: · Chewbacca (42)

Predator (3)

· Jan Ors (2)

Recon Specialist (3)

YT-2400: · Dash Rendar (36)

· Lone Wolf (2)

"Mangler" Cannon (4)

Recon Specialist (3)

· Outrider (5)

The range three is a little tricky but dash is so much better than leebo.

3rd out of 12! Lost to the Fel+Vader+Palp build that's suuuuuper annoying! Beat a Fel+Swarm (by like 4 MoV points)and the Oicunn + Whisper build and Dual Aggressors. It was a bracket elimination tourney so only 4 games won 3 all in all it was fun and I'm going to practice with Super Dash a other Dash builds I like him.
