New Force Awakens Movie poster is up

I'd like to see another villain like Grievous and Fett which can pose a real threat without relying on the force.

I'd like to see another villain like Grievous and Fett which can pose a real threat without relying on the force.

It looks like there is such a villain.

they killed 30 years of at least decent stories that we knew to push GARBAGE at us. I would take six copies of the Jedi flipping Academy trilogy over the "canon" junk they've been throwing out post-Disney, and there is NO VISIBLE REASON to believe TFA will be better.

Funny. The first bit of hope I had that the new movies would be good was when Disney announced that they were making the entire EU non-canon. I quit reading any EU material over 20 years ago because it had gotten so bad. The things I've read on Wookiepedia have only made me feel that was the right call.

By contrast, I've rather enjoyed Rebels. I watch it with my 7-year-old son, and his reaction to it is pretty similar to the reaction the 6-year-old me had when I watched the original trilogy back in the 80's. Maybe it just helps to have a child around to spark the inner child's sense of wonder and enjoyment in me :)

Of course, I'm also getting old, so the whole "raging fanboy" thing is something I just don't do anymore in general...

And see, that's what's so great about Star Wars- getting to see what you were like as a kid when it came out. Star Wars is the kind of thing you can pass on to generation after generation- we're on the third now, and there's no time for First and Second Generation fans to mull around saying how bad things are. In the end, it's not for us and only us- and we should realize that.

We as older fans hold up Star Wars' original trilogy in such high regard, not only because they're just great films, but also because they're something we latched onto at an early age.

Hell my earliest memory is Vader's TIE flying down the trench, blasting at Luke and his wingmen.

What I'm saying is, there's kids who are adults now, who grew up with The Prequels and The Clone Wars- and they love it. They're always going to love it, the same way we love The Original Trilogy- and I count myself lucky by coming into it, during the inbetween period. I don't have the same long standing attachment. (Even my dad doesn't hate the prequels though, and he saw the original in the theaters.)

There's a Star Wars for everyone.

We shouldn't condemn it and denounce it for those who just want to enjoy it, or, if its their first Star Wars film. Even moreso, if its their Star Wars.

Remember, without the OT there is no SW, and without Flash Gordon there would have been no OT.

All hail Flash Gordon, conquerer of Ming and Hero of Earth and Mongo! You don't need the force when you are a world class athlete and polo player.

He was a polo player? I thought he was a football quarterback?

Mere revisionism. "The comic strip follows the adventures of Flash Gordon, a handsome polo player and Yale University graduate", according to Wikipedia.

So uh... Is this gonna be a 3d movie then? Also... What's up with the Han had a black kid rumour?

Is this true or... ??

I'm just gonna put it out there that it's a real cop-out to shoehorn in something like that. If I were an actor I would demand script writers make an actual effort to write diverse ethnic characters or I wouldn't play the roles. I mean, it kinda feels like we're adding things for the sake of appearances here.

It's a rumor that Finn is Han's son. There are a lot of rumors, fake or real, that circulate before a Star Wars movie's release.

John Boyega's character Finn is one of the main protagonists (Alongside Daisy Ridley's character Rey). Their last names are deliberately being withheld, presumably because Abrams wants to keep us in the dark about their parentage. Whatever is the case, it's ridiculous to complain the main character of a movie that hasn't even come out didn't have effort put into writing him.

And that's where he failed (maybe). See, if he had kept back Poe's last name, too, we would be in the dark about all 3 and wonder who was whose son/daughter. Now it's down to 2 and there's less uncertainty. (Though uncertainty is still to be had, I suppose.)

Poe's not as major of a character as those two, as indicated by most of the movie's marketing like the poster. I'm sure he'll still have a large supporting role, but it's clear Finn and Rey are the most prominent protagonists.

There are actually three characters we don't know the last name of. Kylo Ren's name isn't his birth name.

I can't believe they gave away Kylo Ren's last name. Obviously he's the love child of Ren and Stimpy.

Actually, I'm excited about the many possibilities of who is related and such, and the instant spoilage it will cause. Just like people who have never seen a SW movie know Vader is Luke's father, we will soon hear about (fill in the blank) being (fill in the othe blank)'s kid.

What if none of the new protagonist/antagonists are related? Why couldn't he be a random force sensitive disenfranchised stormtrooper whose mentor is Luke Skywalker?

This is a good point. Not revealing Finn and Reys' last names could be a red herring.

It's also possible there parents where in the movies, but as minor background characters. Rey Antilles? Finn... Okay, I can't think of an imperial officer whose surname sounds right with his first name.

"Fel. Finn Fel."

"Shaken, not stirred."

I had not thought of Rey being of Alderaanian decent. That could be cool.

Between the Aftermath book and Shattered Empire comic, we've learned a lot about a few characters. We know who Poe's parents are. We know that there is a cult (not force sensitive, no force powers) that are collecting old Sith things, and we know that what is left of the Empire flees into unknown space in search of the origin of The Force. We also know that Chewie and Han start a war on Kashyyyk, with only the help of some fellow smugglers. Further more, we are introduced to some character in some places that we know become important in VII.

I personally do not think Finn is Force sensitive or related to the Han, Leia, or Luke. The teaser we see him with the lightsaber, he's holding it like a baseball bat. Here is my hope. That scene happens toward the end of the movie. Finn is looking for Luke and is being chased down by the very scary Kylo Ren (whom none of our young heroes seem to be able to stand up to). Finn either does not have a gun at this point, or knows it is useless. With no where to run, he light that saber in desperation. Just when the audience is sure he's done for, Kylo is thrown off his feet and a cloaked figure lights a green lightsaber and proceeds to hand Kylo his @$$. It's Luke. And the movie ends with Luke being found and Kylo being another Darth Maul (minus the powers). But a greater threat looms. Have they found Luke too late?

This could all be wishful thinking, but it would be awesome, explain the title of the move, and why Luke is not on the poster. Dec. 17th cannot get here soon enough! Until then, I've got some football to watch in hopes to find more clues!

In the top right, there's another giant spherical object...

That's no space station! It's a moon!

Nah, Finn has to be skilled with a lightsaber; the guy already has experience fighting aliens with a katana.

I remember that movie. That was a fun (finn?) one.

I can't recall if that was properly a Katana though.

Hmm. That wasn't the impression I got from Celebration VII. It was always the three of them together and on stage, the old cast members talked about "passing the torch" to these three and how these three would be the new face of Star Wars for a new generation fans. I really felt like the three of them were the new main heroes.

THey are. Poe's pretty important.

So the remnants of the Empire are looking for Mortis then? Or would that be the well that Yoda found? Or was that just the light side?

Found it!

Sweet, it's basically doing a K-turn in the vertical dimension (in the real world, it's called a 'hammerhead').

Way cooler than a loop and far more appropriate if you have two TIE/fo on your six.

We've known quite a bit about that thing since...April? Without spoiling too much....it is no Death Star.

That's no moon. It's a planet. (See the atmosphere). With a big freaking gun thing.

I am surprised that more people haven't noticed.

Maybe it's like the Grand Cannon in Macross?

Yeah, just supersized...

In the top right, there's another giant spherical object...

I mean, maybe 3rd time IS the charm for the Empire? New order?

The Empire does like its Threes.

In the trailer released today look at the 50 second mark, when Kylo is on the bridge.

Traditionally The Empire's Super Weapon Turbolasers {TM} are green, there seams to be a large red beam that can be seen from the bridge of the Star Destroyer.
