We've known quite a bit about that thing since...April? Without spoiling too much....it is no Death Star.
That's no moon. It's a planet. (See the atmosphere). With a big freaking gun thing.

If you ask me, the prospect of somebody who's not force sensitive, using a lightsaber, is interesting. How often do we actually see that? It's rare, but it would be interesting.
In the original trilogy the propsabers were actually pretty heavy.
When you swung one it had a pretty decent amount of force behind it, which translated over to the blade having starnge air resistance or somesuch.
It's not like swinging a stick, or a sword for that matter. No weight to the blade, but much more momentum than one would expect, and no avoidable edge means you could very easily overswing. (And chop your arm off.)
As for the crossguard, if you are dueling (and with no more clone wars the Sith are pretty much just anti-Jedi HQ units) you want a crossguard.
Luke's hand in episode 5 - wouldn't happen if there was a guard, or at least not the same way.
Here, just look. (Fyi, half-swording doesn't work with lightsabers,
same with grabbing the blade, but not worrying about edge alignment should make up for it.)
U-uh no offense but why are you telling me this?
I know all of this.
I am a proponent of the Crossguard Lightsaber.
Hell I also enjoy the prequels. I'm not one of the curmudgeons.
It also looks cool. And I wouldn't be surprised if the "crossguard" could fire a laser bolt like a certain young Paduwan's.
It's just the falcon flying along the ground but they used editing tricks to make it look like it was doing a loop.
But there's so much tfa news finding the site that reveals it is proving tricky.
Isn't that one of the key tenants of special effects, though? Using tricks to make things different than they are? I mean, we all know the hobbits weren't really that small compared to others in real life, right?

Whaaaaaaa-
You mean, Bilbo... *World shatters.*
Found it!
I don't really think anyone cares, it's best bit of that trailer.

Patently false because i clearly do ![]()
But why? Camera tricks are used all the time in special effects.
It went until Han and Chewie showed up in the last trailer that I shed one manly tear.
And I love how SW fans always find something to complain about. That's the best way they can show their love for the films...or something.
Edited by GrimmyVYes but not generally to make footage look more exciting than it is, it's dishonest.

The whole point of special effects is dishonesty. Especially with CG. You are seeing something that isn't there. It is a camera trick. There is no reason not to use them. Especially when you are rushing out a teaser to appease the masses.
I am surprised that more people haven't noticed.

Probably think it's a deflector shield.
Aah. Duly noted dude. Though I did know those things too- I'm just saying it'd be cool to see someone who couldn't use the force use a Lightsaber as a weapon. We just don't see that much.
General Grievous!

I can't even comprehend why you'd say that. That's the point of special effects, in fact before the advent of computer graphics directors and cinematographers rely heavily on camera tricks to make shots more exciting and they still do.
I'll forgive them a Death Star III in this one as long as there is no Death Star IV in episode IX.

I'm not even talking about special effects.
I'm talking about taking a finished scene then altering it to misrepresent when you will see in the theatrical release.
False advertising.
Trailers do that all the time. Sometimes a scene is cut after the trailer shows it, sometimes they decided on a different shot or angle after the trailer comes out.
Also, how do we know it won't be like that in the film? Only seeing it will tell us.

Maybe it's like the Grand Cannon in Macross?
Yeah the Empire Strikes Back trailer had concept art in it, but that wasn't on screen in the film. FALSE ADVERTISING! EMPIRE STRIKES BACK SUCKS!
Since noone else posted the actual poster.
That video was really cool. I still think the shot they used for the video is awesome; I just find it fascinating how they managed to film a shot like that.
Wanted to comment but someone mentioned ISIS and I lost all respect for the topic.
Woot Star Wars, hooray for modern man. I suddenly know why the real Star Wars canon had to be cut...

What? You didn't come on this thread to argue about whether a movie no one has seen yet is good or not?
