Red Missions

By Felswrath, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

So whence the game is finished I really want to play all of the scenarios in chronological order. And that's when it occurred to me that certain heroes will probably be used more than once. It therefore follows that their red side missions will be used more than once as well. Therefore we will be left with ridiculous stories like while defending the base on Yavin 4 (Core Campaign), Diala journeys to the temple where her master died to retrieve his lightsaber.... After capturing Weiss on Nar Shadda she accidentally happened to drop it right where she had dropped it and so had to interrupt rescuing rebels on Hoth (Return to Hoth) so that she could receive it in the same manner and drop it there once again if she is used in a later campaign. See the problem, therefore I ask FFG to release side mission packs where we get 1-3 more red side missions per hero so that we don't have to do the same red side missions over, and over, and over again.

Unfortunately the game was not designed with the foresight to carry heroes over from one Campaign to the next. Thus it'll be all new heroes for Hoth. If you do use a hero from the original IA, then they'll be reset to 0XP anyway.

I think this situation is best resolved with a little creative thinking. Diala is NOT returning to pick up her light saber- she is returning because she learned that there was actually a hidden X where she had recovered her lightsaber that she was unable to find last time, so she has to return!

Little tweaks like that are easy enough to do and really can be used to make the campaign more unique and inject a little of your own storytelling ideas into it.

Have at it, make it yours, and if all else fails.... Plop a TARDIS on the map and call it a Space-Time Continuum warp!

Which is interesting since Dialia is on the box art for Return to Hoth, which really means little in the grand scheme of things but still.

And plus you could also just say it is not so much them doing it again as remembering what had happened to them. For example using Dialia again, she either is meditating or is dreaming of the event where she found the lightsaber. Here if the heroes win then she remembers all they have overcome to get to this point, whereas if she fails she is feeling haunted by the darkside and dare not use her lightsaber feeling she may give into the Darkside.

Or bargain. She gets the light saber and imperials get imperial industry without replaying the missions.

To my way of viewing it, Twin Shadows (as a campaign) does not really count to the story (no time period). When I do my grand campaign, I will only use it for side missions. With this in mind I wonder if RtH will come with rules for combining the Core and new campaigns. Maybe some thing like you can start with 12 xp of skill cards from the past game and 700 credits worth of upgrades from the last campaign.

You forgot the reference to timey wimey! ;)

Tracked you down with this. This is my timey-wimey detector. It goes ding when there's stuff. Also, it can boil an egg at 30 paces, whether you want it to or not, actually, so I've learned to stay away from hens. It's not pretty when they blow.

I think they should have rules for RtH being a continuation of the main campaign, as well as making it a stand alone campaign. If this is not the case I'll probably do what Felswath suggest and just MAKE it roll over.

In Descent, which this game is based on, each campaign is self contained. If I finished playing the base campaign Shadow Rune, and then want to play Labyrinth of Ruin with the same character, my character resets as if the Shadow Rune campaign never happened when the new campaign begins.

You can if you want but you're going to hit a major plateau. Exp and credits will soon become obsolete as you'll have everything worthwhile (and you can only use so much gear) and the only resource worth it will be Influence since there is some influence cards that can be reshuffled.

If you tweaked the core a bit, you could make TS and RtH into one expansive campaign. As an example, cut all the hard numbers in half. Threat level, influence, xp and credits all get cut in half. After the finale at threat level 3, then you go into Hunted Down at threat level 3.5 etc. I don't know how many missions RtH is, my guess is 4 story missions with 3 side missions. By the time you get to the end, you'll be just about the same # of exp, influence, etc as you would be at the end of a standard campaign. This might be something I need to try once RtH is released.

RtH is 16 missions total. It's not a mini expansion/campaign like Twin Shadows.
