On page 49 of the F&D book, it states that character morality starts at 50, though the player can change that to gain extra starting XPs or credits. But it seems a bit vague on exactly how much the morality changes. It states the player can gain +10 XPs, +2,500 credits, 5XPs and 1,000 credits, or change their morality to 29 or 71. Am I reading that entry wrong? Do you change the starting morality to 29 or 71 to gain the extra credit/XPs/ both? It seems a bit vague. That, and its currently 9:30, and im out of caffeine.
Starting Morality and Bonus goodies
Actually, you just pick an option. Picking XP or credits means you start with 50 morality, or you can forego those to modify your morality by 21 points. It's not exactly like Age and Edge where you have to trade for the bonuses. It's easy to overlook, and it took me a few reads to figure it out.
The player can gain +10 XPs, +2,500 credits, 5XPs and 1,000 credits, or change their morality to 29 or 71.
This is all! You read it right. There is nothing else to it. No trading of anything. You just get one of those options awarded to you at character creation.
Yeah, Morality is different from Obligation and Duty in that you don't have to "trade off" your starting Morality.
As the posters above have indicated, you have a base Morality of 50, and then you select one of the five options, only adjusting your Morality score if you picked either the +21/Light Side Paragon or -21/Dark Sider option.
This threw a number of folks during the Beta as we were all used to having to "trade off" to get the bonus XP or bonus credits; such as taking extra Obligation in EotE or reducing starting Duty in AoR. What didn't help is the Beta had a section in the GM's chapter about reducing starting Morality to gain extra XP or credits (likely a holdover from Alpha playtesting).
