Obstacle question

By FellowPT, in X-Wing Rules Questions

A friend and I had this situation come up and I wanted some feedback on it:

If you land on an obstacle and the next round the template touches the same obstacle (because where the ship stopped on a large obstacle) does that ship roll for damage and lose its action for that turn as well?

My answer is yes because the rules state that if the template touches an obstacle follow these procedures...

My opponents answer was no because you can't hit the same asteroid twice.

Thoughts?

You are correct.

Also, there is nothing in the rules that says you cannot hit the same obstacle twice.

I would say yes. There is no mention in the rules about hitting the "same asteroid twice in consecutive turns". The rule clearly states that if you base or template overlap an obstacle you take the effect of that obstacle, be it asteroid or wreckage.

Thanks. That's what I thought. We were playing casual so I didn't want to waste a lot of time examining the issue at the moment but I'll be more prepared if the issue comes up in tournament play.

The fact you said the template touched it again the next move is the key to the ship hitting it again. The only time it doesn't count as hit is if you move off the previous turns obstacle without the template touching it at all (or you are Dash)

You definitely can. I had a game where my opponent and I collectively hit asteroids at least 4 times... and it was all the same asteroid! It must've been a giant space magnet or something.

Not to mention that a TIE Defender (or any ship that can remove stress each round) can continually K-Turn over the same obstacle an infinite number of times potentially.
