So this happened in my area (Long post sorry venting)

By Krynn007, in X-Wing

I have grown a serious hatred towards 40k and have never once played it.

You should at least give it a go before you decide you hate it. 40K has a lot of problems but it's still fun despite them.

Too bad it is so disgustingly expensive that "just giving it a try" is not practical. That game is going to have to radicaly change or die sooner or later, because the alternatives have so much going for them.

And a lot of folks despise it for the cultural attitudes that it breeds, far more than any actual gameplay considerations of the game itself. It seems to breed a certain kind of toxicity, and that can spill over to elsewhere.

That at least is not true around here. A lot of the 40k guys are really cool and it is a lot of fun to talk about painting and general hobby stuff with them. They are happy to share their bi-weekly meeting with players of other systems and the atmosphere there in general is fantastic.

I left a little comment on their facebook post. That is insane. I asked "Will players be allowed to roll their own dice?"

I can't believe some of the comments I'm reading on there now

Unbelievable!!

Dont give up mate if you have a chance to grow a communty at another store give it a try Im sure many others will join in once the word is spread

the really sad thing is operators like that store owener are everwhere but given enough time they disapear people eventually wake up to there faults and look for other places to play

...or stop playing, sadly.

Never give up! Never surrender!

You have store ownesr who treat their store like it's their own private little club. Those stores generally don't last long...

My advice: forge a community that is independant of a perticular venue. Here is what is happening in our area and it works great:

- We have a Facebook group that lists where we play on which day of the week and where people post for rules clarification and to meet up

- Sales, exchanges and such are handled through another group (to avoid spam)

- Publicity is banned unless it is to list a major discout (50% off on tie interceptors at www...)

- Posting of events, tournaments and such is allowed

- Gripes about perticular store or owners must be taken elsewhere (keeping it neutral ground)

The end result: we are a 250+ member community (not all of which are active mind you) who are not bound by a specific store. The stores which offers the most interesting tournaments / prizes / community support gets our presence and business. If a tournament is announced, you can expect 4 to 10 people to show up from our group; all nice people with a few rule buffs and TO experience if needed.

One store owner has been pretty active, making events and now, we have an epic league that will stretch out over several months. Good business for him, fun for us. Everybody win! :)

If something goes sour, then people naturally gravitate towards other options.

When Krynn says PEI, or Prince Edward Island for you non-Canadians, is small... it's small! It's the smallest province in Canada, at a whopping 2,190 square miles - or 5,660 square KM, with a staggering population of just over 140,000 people. And it's an island, so you either need to drive off said island, or go by ferry.

Here is a link to this stores massing of Sullust event. Not cool.https://m.facebook.com/MerlynsGaming/photos/a.390114567803705.1073741828.381532588661903/532765623538598/?type=3&source=48

I've also emailed ffg through the link above.

Thanks you :)

So I've emailed lion rampant, ffg, and my cousin has done the same.

I believe maybe couple others email lion rampant.

What if anything do you think that would do?

I'd like to see no more xwing armada at this store

The owner has no respect to teach or play the game within the proper rules, and doesn't follow ffg op.

Just been thinking about this and now Im feeling more mad than I did yesterday

Argh!!!

Added two cents to the facebook page. I noticed that the store deleted the Massing at Sullest event from their facebook and posted something about slander.

wow he deleted it! pretty wild situation over there. I thought Canadians were all super nice.

Here's the other thing I'm wondering. Just how large is the Store Owner's collection?!?!?

If he's going to provide all the ships and upgrades for every single fleet in the entire tournament - that's 600 points per match - How many people is he allowing?!?!? I'd guess most stores have at least 8-12 people, so lets assume 10 people show up - he's got to have 3000 points worth of Armada stuff open and out of the package. Does he? Or is he like alot of us, and could probably support 4 squads of 300 points, and gonna cut off admission at 4 people?

The thing is, It's like a $150 prize kit - so if he's only charging $7 per person, he's probably expecting close to 20 people. There's no way he's got 6000 points worth of Armada stuff opened and ready to fly. What's more likely is he's letting his friends bring their own lists and just assigning crappy lists to those he doesn't like. But that is just speculation.

WTF. He couldn't handle some criticism. Glad I rated his store one star already. I had like 6 posts in there, I wasn't rude and I don't think anyone else was either.

Stephen Harper says otherwise. But he will be gone tonight.

That's really terrible that he single-handedly killed your local X-Wing community. Usually when you see someone like that (a poor sport, among other things), you're so happy that they're only a player and not a TO or store owner. I'm sorry you had to live the gamer's nightmare.

I dropped my .02 just now. If you didn't live way up north I'd invite you down to our local group to play and would give you a core set paid for me personally for your troubles with another store in the area. Nobody should be made to feel like raw hamburger simply cause someone refuses to evolve with the game.

It almost sounds like he wants to drive away the competitive players so he can split the game night and tournament kits with his buddies.

That's exactly what it seems like. This store doesn't even bother trying to interact with the larger community we have on Facebook. In the NS and Moncton groups I try and help stores coordinate events to avoid overlap and help drive attendance. This store is off in its own bubble.

It's just as I said it is, a private event for a few of them

Probably 3-4 including him.

And its probably not 300 pt fleets.

Honestly I'm not sure what he is planning, but I am fairly certain he does not have all the pieces last I was aware he had 1 core set and one of each wave 1.

I believe some of the locals kept their stuff there as well, but they didn't have much.

That could have changed but I doubt it

The store isn't big

For an xwing tournament we could fit 12 max, and that was two group to a table.

Also Crabbok you didn't day anything offensive or slander. Nobody did. He's just trying to make him look like he is the victim

It's really too bad because he could have used this opportunity to grow, and reach out to new and experienced players

Thank you everyone for your support.

I feel really sorry for you and wish I could help you somehow, but I can't. Just hang in there!

No worries man.

I just had to vent, and glad most here understand.

It's been a long time coming

This armada tournament was the straw that broke the camals back

Saint John, NB store Heroes Beacon has applied for Armada store championship 2016. So that's something you can somewhat reasonably get to. If it ends up being the only one I will be there for it. Not sure if a Halifax store applied or not. Truro we only applied for X-wing. There's a lot of X-wing store championships applied for but only at most two Armada.

That's good to know

Not sure if I'll make any off island trips with Xmas coming up soon.

I asked a different store here if he could get a store championship, but don't know if that'll happen.

If I have to I'll try get off island for that

Too bad your not local to FL I'd snap you guys up into our community in a heartbeat. I'd also pitch in and buy you a TFU core set for all your grief and invite you to the shop I play at for a weekend of hardcore friendly gaming simply cause I could. Best of luck bud and I hope you form a new community. It seriously pisses me off to see players treated like that.
