So the crews ship was stolen by pirates, then handed over ro the empire so they could go over it for secrets. Assuming they try to get it back, i meed a good imperial location for them to infiltrate. A planet, space station, star destroyer, wtc. Where would you set this advenure? I know i could make something up, but i would rather do something in canon or legend...

I've used the Tanthior System in the Corellia Sector for an Imperial base. The sourcebook says there are rumors of an Imperial maximum security prison and they might have to infiltrate the prison to get the ship out of impound.
Tanthior is also a dangerous jungle world so you can have fun with the trip to the base and the environment. (I myself had several alien creatures attack my PCs on the way there to test their mettle)
Where were they when the ship was intercepted? The Imperials would likely send it to a local facility.
The easiest way would be to look through Wookieepedia for Imperial planets/facilities near that location. Should be relatively easy to navigate off the starting point.
Unless the PCs have honked off a particular Imperial. If that's the case, that Imperial is going to take it to their own facilities, wherever they are.
The ship was absconded on Felucia. Pirates could be anywhere. BBEG is Blackhole. We have a recurring Moff. Id like to use Blackhole more. Byblos could work, but again i just need some good set dressing.
Seeing as Felucia is located in the R-06 area of the galactic map, I recommend Lianna as the location.

Why not some massive Imperial space salvage yard? A massive space station (maybe a ring station around a planet?) with hundreds of old craft floating about, a massive molecular furnace for converting spacecraft into raw materials, and dozens of smaller independent hanger bay facilities for the storage, disassemble, and analysis of smaller craft?
So the players might have to infiltrate one station, space walk to another, recover (important item here), get chased by spacetroopers through a salvage scaffolding, then retrieve their actual ship from the hanger of a Venator star destroyer as it's getting fed into a molecular furnace.
Their hunt has led them from Felucia, to NarShadda, and now out to Smugglers Run, out past Tatooine and Ryloth, where the exchange between pirates and empire took place. The crew is on the way, but will be at least a week behind. The pilot is definitely wanting her ship back. This could lead anywhere.
I wonder if I should just send them to the Maw and see what happens. ..
