Enhanced Armament on VSDs

By TheRealStarkiller, in Star Wars: Armada

My first thought when wave 1 came out was like: ****! there is no Enhanced Armament card in the VSD expansion!

I used it with core set only play on the VSD, because it makes sense.

The artwork on the card clearly shows an Imperial capital ship - so I thought naturally its focusing VDSs.

But its not.

Does anyone still use Enhanced Armament on VSDs and used it to a satisfying rate of success?

Side Question:

What if there would be a similar card that would add a red to to the front arc only for 10 points?

Would this be an auto-include for your VSDs? Or would this be too expensive?

There's a card that adds red to the front arc for less than 10 points, but the downside is too much.

EA looks good on paper but I mostly play my 3 nebulon B and a Cr90 list, where taking EA would just be dumb. Well, the Cr90 could use it, but I need those points for B wings.

I kind of like it on VSDs, but it's hard to justify so many points. it does heavily reduce their vulnerability outside of the front arc though.

At Sullust i played against a tough list with triple VSDs all with EA + Motti (plus assorted other stuff), it was actually quite a bear. Really hard to outflank effectively, and very tough.

I won, but it was my hardest of the day by far.

It was a triple of VSD-I then I guess?

3 VSD-I with Motti and Enhanced Armament ... hm ... I don't like it.

I don't really put EA onto VSDs when I use them, there's other turbolasers I like better for that front arc. I can see it being useful on a VSD intended to protect a flank (something like a VSD2 with EA to sit beside and slightly behind an ISD to protect it from ships trying to dodge the front arc) but even in that situation I think I'd look towards Slaved Turrets these days.

Yeah.

It's not my kind of list either, it just caught me off guard as my 2 Corvettes kept running into mutually supporting blocks of EA boosted side dice. That 1 extra dice makes a surprising difference when its on multiple ships.

Still....not something i'd fly, but it was tricky with my fleet build.

I could MAYBE see some use of EA on a VSD-II along with the Dominatore title - so you virtually extend the forward arc firepower to its sides ...

honestly i prefer H9s on my VSD if i am running a turret upgrade. With things like SW-7 an H9, SW-7, Dominator VSD2 can do a lot of damage.

Vic II with EA, leading shots and weapons liason seems okay for a Tarkin list.

Add 3 TIE fighters for cheap fighter cover.

You can just use navigate commands with the ship, then spam engineering tokens with Tarkin. If you need to command your TIEs or add another dice to the side arnament, burn and switch the token.

4 re-rollable red dice in the side arc of a VSD seems like a nice deterrent to flanking.

There are better options for theoryhammer, but I like making units that seem sub-optimal on first inspection but are more like a 'swiss-army-knife' and can react well to the battlefield around them. This setup would mean you could react quickly to bombers, flankers as well as other capital ships, and keep a decent manoeuvrability and repair option.
