Convince me Han doesn't suck

By Norgrath, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

So since I got this game I've been thinking that Han really sucks. Compared to Jyn he costs 7 points more for 6 more health, an extra blue attack dice and distracting while having worse surges, worse mobility and a worse counter-attack. That's just one example but he seems to come up short in every feasible comparison I make.

Am I missing something here?

Yeah.... But he's Han Freakin Solo man! He has a couple bonuses: being a leader AND a smuggler, he has access to more/better command card effects, that extra health is helpful, and defense buffs that work on multiple figures per round can be very helpful, especially on non-grab missions. He IS expensive though.

No. Han sucks.

He's not good.

The main thing I've seen about him that makes him better in Skirmish is his command card - an extra Seize Initiative, except he has to activate first. That can be pretty mighty if it is set up right. I'm also interested to see if the "Smuggler Ball" someone recently mentioned may be a good way to use him, but so far I have not put him into my lists. Luke is so much better a choice.

He IS a little annoying to play against if he is standing next to C3PO, but in general I'd agree unary he's too expensive.

Agreed. Without C3P0 he's not worth using. But beside 3P0 he's not bad at all.

3PO is too slow to make Han good enough for the points.

3PO is too slow to make Han good enough for the points.

Additionaly, 3P0 is easily taken down with 1 shot as long as he doesn't roll a dodge. Maybe if you created some kindof 3P0 ball and could get some more speed out of him... But Han isn't worth it.

Han just like all of the other uniques that cost 10 or more are not worthwhile playing because you can run 2 sets of non uniques for roughy the same cost that are 1000x better then Han luke Vader boba ig88 ect.

Disagree vehemently on Luke as far as rebels go. A focused saber strike is perhaps one of the deadliest combos in the game. He gives offensive buffs and can heal. Luke is a bargain at 10 points.

Case in point, I played 3x Wookiees, Luke Gideon and3pO in a tournament and crushed 3x wookies and chewie. Luke's saber strike and movement ate the wookies alive and I didn't lose a single card.

Yeah, it's tough justifying the other uniques when you can take two elite sabs for an extra point compared to Han or2 rg for less than Vader, but you can't double anything that gives you the value of Luke.

I actually tested Han in a smuggler list with Han, Jyn, Saska, Gideon, Elite Sabs and Trandos.

I played against a Somos list with heavy stormtroopers, both elite and regular, elite stormtroopers and a elite probe droid.

Han was the best unit in the game, I actually rolled badly with him but still did a lot of damage thanks to his surges.

More of use was his free evade which stopped extra damage and conditions, Jyn of course took extra dvantage of it, unlike C3P0 Han can take a hit and deal some great damage with good range. I also got to use return fire a few times which is an added bonus on a dodge.

I think however that a squad built with a black dice would benefit more from free evades so thinking about adding Han to a mercenary squad.

I actually think this could be a good counter against the 4x4 and Rebel blast which rely a lot on surges.

I also thought Han was bad but after actually testing him I have changed my mind, I like Han now. How many of you have actually tested Han?
