Creating a Star Wars Armada Map Based Campaign...

By LTJGBeam, in Star Wars: Armada

and I want to base the Campaign Map on the Bormea and Darpa Sectors on the edge of the Core Worlds and Mid-Rim/Old Colonies. The area is known as the Rigalli Shell for the Ringalli Nebula that dominates a portion of the sector. A quick google search for "The Ringalli Shell" will lead to the various maps and articles on the region.

These are the sectors the Nebulon-B Rebel Privateer Far Orbit rampaged through about 2 ABY. The Far Orbit's Privateering Raids were very successful in showing that, with the majority of the Imperial Fleet deployed into the Mid and Outer Rim pursuing Rebel forces, the Core worlds were not safe from rebel operations.

The campaign takes place after the conclusion of the Far Orbit's Privateering Cruise, as the Empire moves ships into these lightly defended sectors in response to the Rebels depradations, with the intent of smashing this affront to the Imperial Core Fleet's Honor. The Rebel High Command is also moving ships into the sectors to take advantage of the weakness that the Far Orbit's patrol has revealed. It looks like a showdown is brewing...

I am putting together an expanded map of the area (based on the WEG The Far Orbit Project Campaign book's Map of the Sectors), and am trying to locate as much information about the sectors as possible. I have the actual Far Orbit Sourcebook, and its map.

My question to the community is this:

I had found a map somewhere on the web that shows the relationship between the Ringalli Nebula in Bormea and Darpa Sector, and the Starforge Nebula in the adjacent Ado Sector. Starforge Nebula is the rumored location of Starforge Station, a large Shadowport that deals with the less savory members of the sectors star-faring denizens. So a likely place that the rebels might want to contact.

But I cant find the map now when searching for it!!!!!

Does anyone know any starmaps that show the locations of nebulae and other astronomical features of the Star Wars Galaxy? I have found the maps of the Star Wars Essential Atlas to be great for planetary and hyperspace information/location, but not for the locations/shapes of the various nebulae.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Dont suppose you you coud just check your history... Or is it too far back?

I will check in some of the Star Wars D6 sites, maybe someone there has something.

The game module was published in 1998, and is set 2 years after the Battle of Yavin, So history-wise it is set shortly after the Original movie. I have the Far Orbit Project Book and the Pirates and Privateers book as well. So the history is available from the source, so to speak.

The thing that is bugging me is I can't find the one map that had both the Ringalli Nebula AND the Starforge Nebula on one map, so I can have an idea as to the shape of the Starforge Nebula, and can place a portion of it on the campaign map. I may have to hunt through my WEG D6 Starwars Sourcebooks and see if I can find it. I was hoping someone here would say, "Oh, that's in XXXXXXXXXXX!"

I'm not sure where in the literature those two are combined, and I'm pretty familiar with this stuff. At any rate, the Essential Atlas (a much more recent source) has these two in very different parts of the galaxy.

I cant check right now, but check "Pirates and Privateers" by WEG. StarForge Station is featured in there, and i think there was a map of the nebula, which may or may not include the Ringali as well.

Best i can do until i get home to my books!

Yeah, these are in two very different parts of the galaxy.

But don't let that stop you. My crowd and I are doing a very informal map campaign (as in, we play battles and I describe the outcome - in a fair and balanced way - on HNN. Oh, and there's a map .)

Thanks Extropia, I purchased a copy of Pirates and Privateers off Ebay. I will look through it.

Jimble --

That is the map from THE FAR ORBIT PROJECT that I based my Campaign Map on. Here is what I have so far. It's taking a while to expand and map out. I am almost done though. Just adding in the Major and Minor Planets/Hyperspace Routes:

Yeah, these are in two very different parts of the galaxy.

I saw that the Essential Guide places ADO SECTOR (where the Star Forge Nebula is located) halfway across the Galaxy. I am going to keep it adjacent to BORMEA and DARPA SECTORS as in the original adventure module. Otherwise I have to have a HUGE Campaign Map, and for the first run through of the campaign I want to keep it smaller.

Love the campaign background and map. Securing the two choke-point worlds makes a good explanation for the limited campaign area. Look forward to seeing more of this.

It's always nice to have a physical copy.

For everything else there's the D6 Holocron . (Look under the 'downloads' menu.)

Linked to from the Holocron (under tools) is also my nav computer .

Completed the campaign map. I added Major and Minor Planets, and some Minor Hyperspace routes. I am now working on an Imperial, and Rebel Sector Briefing. Each will contain the details known by the side regarding the sectors various Major and Minor Planets, and will have a list of missions that the fleet commands want accomplished.

Ships will move at different speeds on the Major, and Minor Hyperspace Routes. Ship can move through spaces with no hyperspace route but do so at reduced speed.

I am about to start a map-based campaign / league at our FLGS. You can find the PDF of the campaign set-up here . Note my map is not nearly so elaborate as the one in this thread.
