300 Points Imperial Bomber-heavy

I was thinking about this list:

Both VSD do the Squadron command, obviously.

Wulff keeps a squadron token, so I can command all 9 squadrons.

Bombers get some teeth: + 1 blue vs enemy squadrons.

If the opponent don't bring squadrons, I will have 9 black dice to toss at ships - and every critical result will cause damage.

Do you like it?

Interesting list. The only thing is, with only vader to offer protection, your bombers will be very easy to tie up. Even with flight controllers, regular bombers are going to have a very hard time taking out other fighters, they will only have 1 blue/1black AS.

I would recommend dropping 1 bomber, drop both flight controllers, add Admiral Chirpy.

Here's the thing: if they have any superiority fighters you're toast. That ~100pts of fighters becomes 100 wasted points: peoples' complaint against using them.

The article that FFG put out advised using like 50-60 of your points on bombers, and the rest on fighters. I disagree with even this. I think your bomber purchases shouldn't exceed 1/4 of your fighter budget (dedicated bombers). 40 points at most. You need to cover them; either tie up enemies' fighters long enough to unload or annhialate them ASAP with a more heavy anti-fighter focus.

I, personally, prefer the latter approach. In my 300pt list I "merely" have a bomber and rhymer. They are supported by Vader who can act as a bomber or anti-squadron ship as needed.

My goal is to utterly decimate their fighter screen then blast away with a rhymer ball full of 50/50 shots and a few black dice. You're set up to do impressive fighter damage, and i'd just swap in some fighters/interceptors/advances to obliterate them and bomb away when gone.

I agree with Bitharne, with the caveat that if your opponent doesn't take squadrons then an all bomber list will decimate your opponent ten times over.

I find that when playing squadrons the idea is to keep giving the squadrons orders for as long as possible, if my opponent engages my squadrons then the idea is to fight my way out of the engagements as fast as possible as to not have my ships fly out of command distance of my squadrons.

It isn't a question of winning or losing this engagement of squadrons, but how long I lose in being engaged in the first place. If my opponent takes two turns to get into range and engages my squadrons for 2 turns and then I lose a turn to playing "catch up" I will gain just one turn if I am lucky shooting at ships. Even if I kill 40-60 points of squadrons here my ships will be fighting without squadrons for the better part of the whole game.

Ya. It's Paper-Rock-Scissors at that point and not worth it. All bombers is amazing against all ships; but that's the very reason neither list will survive long in the tournament scene as a balanced list will do well against both.

Its a gamble, I know.

Its aiming for the non-squadron meta builds mostly, which I encounter most of the time and the not 100 point squadron lists.

On the other hand, thats 45 hp squadrons and they may dish 10 black and 14 blue dice at enemy squadrons in 2 activations.

True...if you're countering meta specially: can't argue that

Thats still bomber-heavy. We got 8 squadrons, so no need for Wulff to activate them all. Chira moves engaged Bombers out of combat and moves Mauler for splash damage.

Objectives? Good question.

Advanced Gunnery, Space Station, Mine Fields?

Not bad. I'd suggest superior positions for blue. Lots of free points with bombers and chirpy.

Ok, dropped two squadrons and added Rhymer again, but keeping Tarkin,

because there will be tokens - and if there are tokens, you can use Defense Liaison for more flexibility or emergency cases in rounds 4-6.
