Imperial Navy Troopers

By Felswrath, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

One of my favorite genaric Imperial designs, the Imperial Navy Troopers have much potential in this game.

Here are a few Ideas for them.

1) cost: 5 Reinforcement Cost: 2 Reinforcements: 2 Faction: Imperial (duh) Trooper Guardian

surge (natural) - +1 damage - stun

Health - 3 Speed - 4 Defense - white Attack - green yellow

2) cost: 6 Reinforcement Cost: 3 Reinforcements: 2 Faction: Imperial Trooper Guardian

- Pierce 1 - stun

Sentinal - Enemy figures can not enter a space occupied by this character

Health -3 (maybe 4?) Speed - 4 Defense - white Attack - Green Yellow

The ideas behind this figure are: 1 That they are guards, we only see them defending the Cell Block and the Bunker on Endor. 2 That they are not as commonly used as storm troopers, hence only 2 in a group. what do you think?

They could come with the set that includes tiles for the docking bay inside a Star Destroyer or Death Star

I imagine them as something like 'Imperial officer in bulk' without the order ability. It really is a pain though that stormtroopers are so weak/cheap when in the lore they are considered elite troopers compared to the other soldiers.

I liked WotC approach to comparing these two. The stormtroopers were one of the heaviest armed (high defense: 16) troopers in the game. But the Navy/ Death Star troopers had better accuracy. I'm not quite sure how this would be translated into the game though, I suppose the way I had proposed of using the white dice instead black. This would make sense as the stormtroopers have heavier armor, while the Navy Troopers have less armor and would therefore be more agile.

Oooh, in fact a whole Death Star insides set, so the tractor beam controls, and the wee balcony by the super laser, and the meeting room!

And a Star Destroyer one with Vader's bed room!

Limit them to the interior of ships and installations like the sand people are limited to desert space.

Give them a different ability than Aim or Squad Training.

We'll be good from there I think.

No Imperial Navy / Death Star Troopers yet, a year on from the original post.

What are the odds of them turning up soon, I wonder? In an Endor release?

Giving them Guardian is an interesting concept. Making them like Death Star police.

I remember making this card a while back. I meant Red Alert to be move 4 and become focused. But making the Guardians is an interesting idea. Given Felswrath's take, maybe surge should be for 2 accuracy, but with 2 accuracy and guardian, would my pricing be fair. To me, these guys are, in Navy terms, ship's defense force versus Marines, which are Stormtroopers.

I was looking at my post. Did I seriously write "Imperial (duh)"?

I don't think they should get focus, these guys are so cheap they are almost too good. For this amount of points they should get attack YY

2 actions = gain 2 movement points and attack (ranged) may reroll each die once

20pts gets you 12 guys, most maps you wouldn't be able to fit them all in the deployment zone

Personally, I think that card is pretty good, though I like the idea of their squad only being 2 units instead of 3. I love how varied the board can get, but Stormtroopers should still swarm it.

You should toss these guys in the Homebrew Thread . It's getting lonely over there. :P
