Scum Y-Wing Builds

By MorgrimDark, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been running the same y-wing builds for a bit now and am looking for some new ones. I would love to see which ship builds are working for you and why. Thanks!

Here's what I've been enjoying:

Kavil, Autoblaster Turret, Unhinged Astromech, Predator, Engine Upgrade - 34
-Kavil is a bit pricey but he packs a punch once he overshoots the enemy
Syndicate Thug, Autoblaster Turret, Unhinged Astromech, BTL-A4 Y-Wing - 21

-This Thug is a poorly guided missile. May have been supplanted by the Y-Wing + TLT

Have has been running y's other than TLT builds?

Syndicate Thug

TLT

Unhinged Astromech

Total 25pts x 4

With this build you can fly around the board like a bunch of drunken monkeys and do well. No arcs to worry about and SOMEONE is always in range of 2 or more of your ships.

Forgot the other part of my post which was to look for builds other than the Unhinged Astromech. I admit to a bit of an addiction to this guy (as evidenced by my ship builds). Anyone fly builds using other mechs?

Before TLT I was running Boba Fett with...

2x Syndicate Thug - Ion Cannon Turret + BTL-A4 Title + R4 Agromech

You take the focus action, and spend the focus on the primary weapon shot, that gets you a target lock for the ion shot. It took a little practice flying the Y-wing to keep enemies in arc. But I found them pretty effective. The classic strategy of Ion the target then K-turn behind it still works.

Edit: Keep in mind that you can spend the focus token regardless of weather you roll any eyeballs or not. This guarantees the target lock on the second shot.

Let's say I'm rolling just blanks and spend the focus token. Am I allowed to use the Target Lock on the first attack to reroll the blanks?

While it's possible and even fun to replace a pair of TLTs with kavil and a Z, guri and Z or even a brobot, it's noticeably less effective. Great to do when you want some variety, but not obviously overpowered like 4xTLT.

For hunting large low agility ships i quite like

Thug

Title

TLT

Engine upgrade

Just get in behind the brick ship and plink with a 3+3+3 attack at range 1 :)

If we had a generic with an EPT slot, wired would suit this build too.

If you want a y-wing which will be a pain to shift whilst kicking out undodgeable hits try this (i loved it when i tried it)

Kavil (32)

Determination

Salvaged astromech

Hull upgrade

Autoblaster turret

6 hull, 3 shields and discards the first pilot and the first ship critical cards. Chucks out 3 dice autoblasters, but must be close so will need its tank abilities.

I like the tank build concept for a class in Kavil. EU seems like a no brainer for mobility so I haven't considered other mods. Hull makes sense with salvaged amech.

Kavil — Y-Wing 24

Veteran Instincts 1
Twin Laser Turret 6
Bomb Loadout 0
Extra Munitions 2
"Genius" 0
Proton Bombs 5
Engine Upgrade 4

Ship Total: 42

It's probably the most expensive build you'd ever want to consider with him, but at PS9 and Genius, it's easy to drop into place for the Proton Bombs and then Boost out of the way. Then use the TLT at R2 to fire with an extra die each time it fires.

I've been having fun with this "Gunslinger" Y-wing:

Hired Gun, TLT, BTL-A4, Unhinged Asttome h for 27 points. It trumps PS2 bruisers like TLT Golds and Blue Squadron Pilots pretty hard, it's got great range, and it's fast. Add a Proxy Mine or two to taste to give it a nasty close-in tool against arc dodgers.

I'm running the same with r4 agro and it also helps a lot vs Palpyshuttles and Predator. My fav Ywing scum so far...

Actualy thanks for tips, I was wandering how to equip Y-Wings for Scum... I am looking forward to repaint them to custom themes - as hired guns...

Nope. Spend the Focus, resolve the results of the attack, gain the TL for a later attack. Which is why the title is so effective. Primary to knock shields around and possibly wipe some tokens, Ion to set them adrift for the next shot.

And in a squadron of 4, that's a lot of sitting duck. Even large ships (I once sent an IG-88 drifting off the board... it was glorious).

You acquire a TL during the attack, but after you spend the focus. The card says "when attacking.." not after attacking or similar, at tournaments I've saved my focus for the second attack so I can reroll blanks, if I get a good first roll.
