An 'assault on hoth' miniatures game? Anyone remember this board game?

By Gadge, in X-Wing

I used to play this

Boardgame with my friend John a lot. It was really really good but like all card counter boardgames a bit visually uninspiring.

Be awesome to see an FFG remake using xwing type miniatures.

Anyone else remember it?

Looks cool. I could imagine something like that being what Armada is to X-Wing for Imperial Assault, because AT-ATs are really iconic, but i can't imagine them in IA.

I have two copies of that game. It is still a really fun game.

Looks boring tbh.

Even star wars branding couldn't make such an old school board game fun.

We already have a fun remake of the battle of hoth anyway... In both Battlefront 2 and 3!!!

How could you see that, from the hex board? That picture doesn't indicate anything rules wise which equates to fun wise. You can't and shouldn't compare video and boardgames, they are too different.

Also that last part was a joke. Of course video games has nothing to do with board games.

I'm a fan of old classic boardgames like 1830 and Britannia, and always wanted to try this one. As I recall, it got good reviews at the time.

You'd be surprised. This one actually stands up quite well despite its age.

That looks like it would be right up there for using Micromachines as replacements for card tokens

People keep calling for a Star Wars ground assault game - but the big question is, could FFG realistically make a 4th SW minis game work? Obviously theyve got the manpower/resources to do so.

But given that X-Wing, Armada and Imperial Assault all cannibalise each other's fanbases + the LCG + the RPGS - would they risk saturating things further with a ground assault game?

Or it is a case of:

"We've already got a metric ton of SW products, why not add one more line?"

West End Games!

Boy, I remember that brand with special love. So many hours of fun with their Ghostbusters, and Star Wars RPG and that Star Warriors game, that would be the granpa of our X-Wing.

A Star Wars wargame based on the Battlelore system isn't all that unlikely, considering FFG has both licenses. Could have a dual sided board with Endor and Hoth, with maybe Tatooine and Coruscant being released as an expansion. Spaceships probably wouldn't fit all that well, but depending on the scale I'm sure speeders could be made to work.

In the X wing campaign missions included in the Corellian Corvette, there is a mission wherein a Star Destroyer is in a holding pattern off the board edge and shoots volleys into the from off the side.

I could see something similar coming in Return to Hoth or another expansion. An ATAT or some other major threat shooting long range from off the board or something like air strikes passing over.

Looks boring tbh.

I can understand how looking at these oldschool hex board and counter games might "look boring" as I too thought that as a kid.

Once you.gain some years you too may grow to appreciate the tactical depth that these old games have.

"where did you dig up up that old fossil!"

I always loved that quote.

It seemed appropriate lol

I would love to see FFG do a modern remake

I'd much rather we get Saturated with good games like what FFG make rather than all the #%&*y merchandise released so far.

Someone brought the game into the gamestore i play at and i played 1 game as the imperial side. The game was ok didnt like the random events and random activation of troops and vehicle. It wasnt bad game juat wish i was playing imperial aasault version.

When I think of the hours I spent... :)

That's quite a heavy group of folks.

I'd love to see a x wing expansion which contains a walker, some ground attack targets and a pair of snowspeeders.
