Rumors & Speculation

By GrandAdmiralCrunch, in Star Wars: Armada

Word has it that the full Episode 7 Trailer will come out next week to coincide with ticket Preorders.

Wave 2 is a month away from releasing which has been the timeframe for new wave announcements. If you look at past releases for other FFG they like to announce new content about a month before the latest launch.

Is FFG waiting till after the trailer drops to announce wave 3. It's not unreasonable for the new Star Destroyer to be included... Might the new trailer include a resistance cap ship?

Theres always the chance. As for the next fighter pack, im guessing it will include a bunch of stuff from x wing that has already been released: z95, defender, phantom, e wing etc.

I could see z95 as rebal cheap fighters like ties. But expect the stuff from the new films

I am kinda expecting a Rebels wave to come along soon in 4 or 5.

I know FFG tends to shy away from the Prequels, but I do think the Acclamator and Venator would look so nice in the Imperial line up.

I am really hoping they stick with the Galactic Civil War for a while.

Which begs the question - if the next fighter wave for the Empire uses the TIE/fo, how would the model be different to the current TIE? In X-wing they have a new paint job, but the models in Armada are unpainted!

Perhaps the cards would be different. Speed 5, 2 blue 2 black dice, 7 pts per model. For $20. :-p

Ironic... Because I started to paint some of my TIE squads like the new ones for fun. Well, sharpie versions, so it's basically inverse regular ones. :D

I'm painting all of my TIEs in imperial blue-grey apart from Mauler Mithiel + 3 TIE stands. They are going to be in FO colours, so when the FO star destroyer is released I can have them flying out of it.

I think wave 3 will contain the FO star destroyer, but there will be a long delay before it is announced, so people can buy multiple ISDs for Christmas. FFG would be stupid to release ISDs before Christmas and then immediately announce the upgraded version is coming down the pipe.

They could do a mixed wave of Episode 7 AND Rebels. Rebels could be that command ship, CR-100 perhaps? I dunno the nomenclature but it was certainly bigger than a CR-90. They could also do whatever the rebel capital ship is for Ep7.

For imperial side, you've got the new Ep 7 Star Destroyer obviously, but then again you've also got the Interdictor and they had Venators... or at least a ship that LOOKS like the Venator in Season 1 of Rebels.

I'd actually be happy to see 3 Imperial ships, and 2 Rebel ships, to even up the score of ships.

It will be at least 5 months till it would hit shelves,(and looking at Armada's record that is optimistic). That means March at the earliest; well beyond christmas lists. It is in their best interest to announce new product to keep interest up, and show they are supporting the game.

I will be dumbfounded if we don't hear about wave 3 before wave 2 hits stores.

The Phoenix command ship is a Pelta class Frigate. It would be cool to see this implemented but it calls to close to the Clone Wars ships.

I'd be happy to hear about wave 3 soon (despite other people in other threads not agreeing), but I'm a sucker for spoilers! I'd also prefer it to be Rebels era than Ep. VII to be honest. I love Rebels, they have some of my favourite ships in the first two seasons (yay for second season just starting!), and I'm a huge Ghost fan (crew and ship). Something someone else said about 3 Imperial and 2 Rebel ship wave: good idea. I forgot the imperials were slightly behind. Sounds like a great opportunity to get a some more new small ships for rebels (*cough* Gozanti), medium (Arquitens <3 and Interdictor), and medium (Pelta) for Rebels (and something else.

It would likey take me a while to warm to any Ep. VII designs personally, and even then I can't tell if I'd want it to fit into my imagined time line/era of Armada battles. Only time will tell, but I'll be a happy, squeezing fan girl if wave 3 is Rebels.

We could see the FO special forces Tie fighter. That has extra blasters at 10 o'clock to the cockpit.

I would agree with all of those except the Tie Phantom. The Phantom is meant to be a cloaked ship that sneaks up on its opponents, therefore squad based tactics would not be used.

But they did operate in squadrons in the very game they were introduced (Rebel Assault 2). And again the only other time we have seen them (EaW). Even if they did act solo, the new Rouges box sets a precedent for single craft squadrons being good to go.

Also, its been my favorite Tie design since 97, so FFG better bring them here :) .

I do NOT want any of the bloody Giraffe-class Star Destroyers. Those should be striken from the record.

Rebels will almost certainly be restricted to X-Wing, or Squadrons.

I hadn't known about them being used as squadrons in Rebel Assault 2. It seems sort of impractical to me to use them that way; they can't be cheap. But I had never thought of having the as R&V style squadrons, that could work! Now what would they be like?

Well, it was not so much the expense as much as the very special materials needed to make them. These materials were thought to be lost (this is all Legends of course), but the empire found a large asteroid in an otherwise barren region teeming with the stuff. They built the production facility right on the asteroid and began pumping them out, as well as applying the materials to an SSD (was meant to be the main carrier of the Phantoms once production was complete), and the production facility itself. Then the Rebels blew it all up.

As to how they would function in game. I have no idea. Probably speed 4, 4 health, anti ship 1 blue, and cloak ability (however the hell you would handle that in Armada). Their anti squad should be better than any of the TIE or Wings we have in the game right now (they had five guns to the Interceptors 4, and there is precedent for this in X-Wing as well). Maybe the first anti squad red dice, maybe a mix of blue and black.

Defenders would also be awesome to see in the game. Probably have bomber and escort like X-Wings.

Put two scatter tokens on the card.

Maybe one scatter on the based Phantom, two on the ace.

And give it the ability to move regardless of the number of engaging squadrons (it can always escape).

As soon as you have defence tokens on a generic squadron you have to keep track of which squadron is which. I can't see that being introduced.

I'd do it similar to hyperspace assault. Have it pop in at some point during the game. Say, you can deploy it at the beginning of any turn, within range 5 of any friendly ship, to represent it being revealed when it fires. And then give it Tycho's ability, or maybe just Intel to keep it simple and standardized.

In X-Wing, being cloaked prevents them from attacking, but in the video games they appeared in they were cloaked until they attacked due to power constraints (think ST: tos Klingon ships).

Possibly you could make them count as obstructed if they have not yet activated during the turn. Or they could have something like Intel. Would be cooler to have it be more unique though.
