Preference for Acrylics

By Rapture, in X-Wing

I recently saw someone say that the older, solid color FFG tokens are nicer than the new light green and blue acrylic tokens (like the store championship focus tokens). I feel the opposite pretty strongly, so I was curious what the popular opinion is.

So, do you and/or the people you play with prefer the newer 'cloudy' tokens, or the older solid tokens?

I have 2 sets of the new evades and I like them. I think I like them better then the solid ones.

I like the cardboard ones. I have so many spares that I don't care if I lose one or two along the way

I have a bunch of the solid ones and prefer them myself. I think the gloss looks really nice. The one thing I'll say about the newer style is that they stick out so much better that I always remember to pick them up as opposed to leaving focuses around and just taking it as an action.

I have had both, and got rid of the new ones. To me its just easier to see the difference between focus/evade across a table on the old darker tokens that the new lighter ones. The white just blends in with the color of the token. That being said, I just bought a full set of tokens from one of the acrylic makers in europe because I don't want to mix up/lose anymore of my FFG tokens. I play enough that I notice I tear up the cardboard ones (even though I have tons of spares) and just really like the look/feel of acrylic tokens that stand out and are clear!

Cardboards look better for most of them.

I hate pastel colors so I think the light green ones are disgusting.

I like them both. In play, I typically use the new focus and the old evades, making it obvious to tell the difference between them.

I don't have the option, because i suck. But in general I also don't really care about acrylic tokens, since cardboard does the job just fine here, not like with templates, where them being acrylic actually enhances the experience.

Totally missed the point of the thread here, for the acrylic promos I would prefer the lighter ones.

TBH I like them all.

I do like the dark green best as they just feel so orderly....but then I mostly play imperial...so yeah 0/

I prefer the old ones, and the only ones I never won were the old evades (came in 9th at that Regional)...although, I do use the old evades and the new focus, and it does help tell the difference. Although there a few people that have the really old target locks (1-5) who make fun of me (they just did it last night) because of my brightly colored Red/Blue target locks (6-10)...

I prefer the older, solid ones (I don't have any, though :( ).

Visibility is the key thing for me. The newer glow-in-dark looking ones don't have quite enough contrast. Dark green background, white icon, with minimal additional enhancement is what I'm looking for. One of my complaints about a lot of the existing off-the-shelf acrylic designs is that they add too much additional detail around the icon itself.

The older, the new ones look like candy.

I got lucky. Our Vancouver regional this year got shipped a bunch of 'spare loot' for our loser tourney. So taking fourth place in the runner-up tournament netted me a set of 10 dark green focus tokens. I have since acquired some light green evade tokens, and it's no contest; the emerald green looks much nicer. The contrast is the big one for me, I can easily see what the token is.

Frosties are the best.

The best.

I prefer non-Frosty, opaque tokens, mostly because they have better contrast with the paint used,

That, and it is very satisfying saying that they were only available 1.5+ years ago when asked. Old school represent.

I really, really like the dark green Evades. I don't know why but the color just fits for the state of mind I'm in when I choose for a ship to take an Evade action.

I didn't think I'd enjoy the light green Focuses until I won a set, and I just love the way they feel. Don't have to worry about their edges getting frayed or anything like that, but I do start to worry more about them when I set them on the table.

EDIT: Forgot one thing -- the acrylic Stress tokens are ******* dope.

I try to use a different set than everyone else, just so it's easier to tell who owns which token. I've been using a set of Cog o'Two tokens just because I know of only one other player locally who also uses them. Makes it much easier to divvy the tokens back up at the end of the game.

I do prefer the older FFG acrylics over the newer, and I've been lucky to have started playing pretty early in the game's life so I do have a decent number of the older tokens to use as well.
