What beats Sith Lords?

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

I would be curious to see how N'Dru with Homing Missile, Glitterstim and Crack Shot (25pts) fare against Soontir.... if only he was PS9 so that Soontir have trouble dodging the arc... maybe Veteran Instinct instead of Crackshot... although shooting 5 dice with TL+F versus 4 dice -1 Evade Result and no Evade token sounds tasty....

I might give a try to this build, if nothing else, it,s the same cost as Biggs and will do exactly the same thing!

If soonts allows himself to get in arcat 1-2 of N'Dru, then he deserves everything he gets - a sentiment I'm sure the red baron would agree with himself!

And that's why I said ''if only he was PS9 so that Soontir have trouble dodging the arc'' implying also that you got initiative choice so that you can move after Fel.

But Homing missile is not range 1-2 but 2-3, which is much harder to dodge once the dials are already down. If nothing else, that's some really good area denial that you can exploit with the rest of your team: Every actions that Soontir take to boost or Barrel roll is one less Focus or Evade to deal with, which is always nice.

Could also work against an Aggressor: 5 dice with F+TL vs 3+F minus one evade. I wonder what is the odds of making 4 hits here, putting the Aggressor at half point, value of 25 pts with the new MoV rule, the same value of N'Dru with this setup.

There's a decent chance that they Boost+Evade in early rounds out of habit instead of taking a focus.

Yup, that also. A lot of players tend to forget that you can't use your Evade token against an Homing Missile, one of the advantage of taking an ordnance, people are not used to them.

Lone Wolf works although you'd need to keep some distance between Fel and Vader for Lone Wolf to trigger.

Which is also why I think Lone Wolf doesn't work. It limits your ability to get Vader and Fel pointed at the same target, which makes getting enemy ships off the board more difficult than it needs to be.

Back on topic though, i've actually been informed that my original build for this question clocks in at 101 points. So my new question is how to make the most of that 100.

I like the suggestion of targeting computer on soontir but I fear it makes him too squishy. I'm considering the ever popular veteran instinct for Vader/initiative bid, or wingman to keep soontir fed but his dial open, as I run them pretty tightly once I achieve the flank.

I've taken to keeping Vader relatively cheap by skipping the Engine Upgrade. The boost is nice, but it's a luxury that can be lived without. I'd also never drop Predator, as it makes Vader possibly the game's most consistent source of damage (If I'm doing the math right, Vader's average roll with a TL, Focus & Predator is 2.88 outside of range 1, and 3.81 in it. Before using the Emperor). Just go for initiative the old-fashioned way, I say.
Soontir Fel (Push the Limit, Royal Guard TIE, Stealth Device, Autothrusters) [35]
Darth Vader (Predator, Advanced Targeting Computer, TIE X/1, Twin Ion Engine Mk II) [34]
Omicron Group Pilot (Emperor Palpatine) [29]

Against Soontir you will struggle to get the shot. N'Dru is pretty squishy and the PS hurts him. You really need to engage Soontir with the rest of your list first then follow up with N'Dru against Fel otherwise N'Dru gets isolated and picked off before he shoots.

I was running him with 2 TLT Thugs and a Spice Runner with TLT Moldy Crow and Greedo.

I like it, but I need more practice with it.

I've one shot soontir with the N'dru combo when they guy using it didn't see it coming.

I went to a draw tonight against a top 8 regional guy in my area using the veteran instincts version. He was all ps2 so it was negligible.

In my opinion, and I know it's just an opinion, Vader becomes as good at moving as soontir with the engine, only better because soontir isn't often doing 3 speed stuff.

Next up I'm gonna try crack shot on vader.

I think crack shot and the initiative bid might just be the right call. The potential double crits from Vader are scary as. A range one shot from Vader could wreck almost anyone.

As it has already been said this list is going to be insane when the inquisitor comes out. I'm looking at vi vader, inquisitor, and a shuttle with jammer and engine. That will be sick for sure. Can't type mush now but later I'll post the complete list

I must've missed Darth Soontir. Is that Mouse lore?

it's Darth Fel, actually

Darth Soontir sounds silly :P

Don't be silly! The 8-point crew in question isn't Darth Sheev or Darth Palpatine, right? Same principle applies. Judging by the prequels (Sidious, Tyranus) and the EU (e.g., Bane) your Sith name is something a reasonably smart 12-year-old boy would use for his Xbox Live handle.

So Fel would be... I dunno, Darth Darkwing or something.

Fel's pretty blunt enough for Xbox live :P

came right out of World of Warcraft to describe "demonic" stuff, basically

so Darth Fel's really Darth Demonic (edgy!)

so apparently is means "bile"?

I guess that marks the return of the notorious Darth Icky

Darthwing!

No no no. You take an ominous sounding word and remove/change a syllable.

He'd be, like, Darth Rapt, or Darth Predatus, or something.

Darth Autothrustus? Darth Pushthelimitus? Darth Stealthus?

so Darth Fel's really Darth Demonic (edgy!)

You've got to jazz it up a bit though; Darth Demonious.
