What do Bothans sound like?

By QuinnDx, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

This question came up on my Facebook feed today and it totally stumped me because I don't think I've ever heard a Bothan speak. They were absent from the Clone Wars TV series and I don't recall them being in any Star Wars games that I've played - mind you, that's probably only Knights of the Old Republic. Am I missing a scene from the movie aside from the "many Bothans died to something something" where they're mentioned/seen speaking?

The CRB says they're capable of speaking many languages (including Basic) but do they have a unique sound? I suppose it's not terribly important if they do, but it's accepted that some races in canon/EU speak with a certain dialect. Twi'lek's might speak with a French accent, Pantorans speak with a South African tone and many inhabitants of the Core Worlds like Obi-Wan or various Imperial officers have a British inflection in their voice which has been dubbed Coruscanti. Are Bothans anything like this?

Used car salesmen.

EDIT: At least that's how I imaged ours did.

I always settled for something sounding Jamaican but that works as well.

I picture them sounding like Scooby Doo, but that's me :D

French. Just because.

Our one recurring bothan NPC sounded like Sean Connery without the actual Scottish accent.

We never found out in our campaign, because every Bothan died during character creation.

As Shlominus already pointed out, they just sound like a human.

Here's another video from SWTOR with a bothan speaking (at around 1 minute in):

Without the accent, what's he got left?

Money?

Great, so know they sound like the Donald. At least they have the same mouth shape.

I would probably make them quite guttural, along with lots of glottal stops and rolling R's.

But that's just me.

When I think about Bothan, I alway get the picture of Littlefinger in Game of Thrones.

No one knows.

Too many of them died trying to bring us this information.

good at spying and information retrieval.. bad at delivering without fatalities... 9 lives they have not.

I think a lot of his inflections don't come from his accent. But I think that most of my exposure to him probably comes from people imitating him so I'm pretty far from being a expert.

So nobody watched the videos then?

Ok, great talkin' to ya...

From my perspective, there are people talking but none of them sound like they're anything but human. It's like they didn't get a real bothan to play the bothan! That's specist!!

I did! I did! Well... sorta. I did the best I could, taking into account I can't actually see it.

You also have to be aware of cultural differences.

For instance never just say to a Bothan, "Engage the enemy."

Instead say, "Engage the enemy. By shooting them with your weapon. Do not engage them in conversation ."

You will never get that first initiative slot back.

Bothans simply squeak a little when you shoot em...

They sound like humans with costumes and masks on....

and voiceovers added in post to remove the muffling of the mask...
