No definitive answers today. Good news if you're hoping for no natural answers!
Wavelength drop was uniform across the spectrum. If it was dust/ice we'd expect a dip in some spectra before.

Star's light dimming... Their weapon must be almost fully charged now... ![]()
Some things ruled out! Including probably a Dyson sphere. ![]()

It's still a slightly possible according to the article. I doubt any advanced race would build a Dyson sphere. It's just so costly in materials and over-engineerd. Just orbit the star with a ring of energy abosorbers (solar panels or similar tech) rather than build a whole sphere around it.
"Black hole, Hypothesis gone!" I wan't that on a T-shirt.
"Something we have not thought about." (facepalm) yeah that answer solves everything!
What caused the big bang? Something we have not thought about. I wonder if they have tought about Ponies ![]()
THE DIPS ARE REAL
I should say THIS dip isn't an opaque object. Hopefully we'll catch one of the big 15-20% dips and get that spectra.
Finally* starting to read Cibola Burn, the artifacts on Ilus remind me of this...
Any updates?
*School's out. Got the book as a very belated Christmas present from mother-in-law on the night before what turned out to be our second child's birthday. Meant I got a good chunk of reading done in hospital while my wife slept and I was too uncomfortable on the 1.5'-wide "couch" to do so.

I'm about halfway through the same book. I love the expanse!
Congratulations on the birth of your child!
Current state of research on this particular spectra: That looks like dust between us and the star, but more dust than we understand could possibly exist around this particular star. Based on orbital period this "dust band" is 2 times larger than the star. Like thousands of our asteroid belts smashed into the same amount of space.
important point: This was a small dip of 1-3%, Not one of the huge 15-20% dips that caught everyone's attention.
my cheeky explanation: Yea you kick up a lot of dust building megastructures. ?
Oh and book 5 of The Expanse is the best in the series. I loved Cibola Burn, but a lot of people think it's the weakest of the series.

Murtry is a **** and I hope he comes to a bad end.
I'd have to say, Amos is definitely my favorite character in the series.
