Another Rules Question (Ship Stuff)

By HernerJade, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello all, I'm just posting rules queries here in preparation for my most recent group's first official session and I want to brush up on my rules to make sure I'm at the top of my game (I haven't been a GM in the last 3 months so it's been a little while)

I've been reading more into the ship combat rules and I find it particularly strange that pilots cannot shoot any vehicle weapons as an action. If a ship has forward mounted laser cannons I would assume a pilot could fire those in addition to any flying maneuvers they'll need to do in a firefight, yet the rulebook says they can't.

Has anyone on here allowed pilots to fire forward guns? Or is there something key I'm missing that warrants this rule? (It also strikes me odd that Pilots have gunnery as a career skill, so since they fly the ship most of the time that would mean they wouldn't shoot the guns at all according to the rules)

Let me know if there's something I'm missing, thanks guys.

Where does it say that pilots can’t fire vehicle weapons? How would a starfighter function if a pilot couldn’t fire vehicle weapons?

Per the rules firing a ships guns is one of the pilots options if they have access to that weapon. the actions says it is not pilot only. In other words anyone on the ship could potentially fire weapons. Pilot only actions can only be done by the pilot. For example the fly/drive maneuver can only be done by the pilot.

Pilots can shoot, but as it's an action they can't do it in the same turn as another action like Gain the Advantage. Maybe that's the confusion...?

Ok thank you that cleared it up for me. I just thought about the rule in the wrong way.

Thanks for the help
