Let's talk about the G-1a

By Hobojebus, in X-Wing

Will it rival the b-wing I say maybe!

Zuckuss is 28 with nice ability that's got to be worth at least one point in my opinion which means the generics will land around 22 points at ps2.

Same hull as a b-wing though it trades a shield for a hull, same fire power, comes with a system slot and an illicit plus a crew slot and all it loses is a Canon slot.

No info on the dial of course but I think it's safe to guess this ship won't be breaking any speed records or making many sharp turns.

I think as a pure jouster it's got potential and I'm looking forward to trying it out, how about you guys?

I want to know what that tractor beam does. Zuckuss with 4-LOM crew should have good synergy...I hope.

With a crew, system, and ilicit slot... this guy could be a contender! Knowing the 3 bank is red, it's looking like this guy is going to be slow. So long as it has 1 straight and banks I'll be fine.

I'm guessing there is a title that lets it take a cannon.

It also loses the barrel roll which is really nice when paired with Advanced Sensors as anyone who has flown a B-wing can attest to.

It does can an evade though. But truth be told, barrel roll is pretty solid.

It all depends on the dial. It might can something weird to make it for it... an S loop maybe? Those seem to be growing on trees these days. I think it's going to get a really low speed dial but with plenty of white and green.

I think the "play" with this ship will be Accuracy Corrector.. you just take evades and use your AC to get consistent 2-point damage while you turtle up with evades and your 8 hit points. This ship *really* wants some kind of repositioning however, to go along with the Advanced Sensors.

I'm really looking forward to the cloaking device... especially on Suhlak. He (or she?) was already very capable flanker at that price for 2 points more it gets dramatically better even if it only works for a few turns.

To be honest it is not the stats that make the B-wing the brawler that it is but the dial. The B-wing has a tight dial and although that may make it slow still it is the best dial in moving through tight spots slow rolling and moving through the furballs which makes the B-wing a great brawler.

We don't know what the mysthunter's dial is so there is no way of telling what it would be. The Star Viper was not the Scum E-wing and we all know the MA-3 Scyk is no where near the A-wing despite similar stats.

So what is the G-1a? Who knows we know it is a high firepower tough but squishy type ship that can harden up a little with the evade action, but other than that we don't know enough about it. A slow moving gunboat, possible; like the B-wing, sure; but fills the same role, maybe not.

I'm guessing there is a title that lets it take a cannon.

Unless they include a second title with it there isn't. Mist Hunter is a 0 point title that puts barrel-roll on the action bar and makes you pay a point to equip a Tractor Beam but you don't get a cannon slot.

If it has the B-Wing dial then Outlaw Tech is bound to be a popular crew. Even with just the B-Wing's dial, PTL+AS+K4 will be some crazy action economy. I'm afraid that combo will end up being a trap as it makes the the 1 agility ship too expensive. Being able to spend and evade token each round while still having TL+Focus shots might work out though.

I hope its dial stinks. I want to get by with only buying one of them... I already have four Bwings.

The big thing I see is its lack of access to the cannon slot compared to the B-Wing. Coupled with losing BR, I think the dial is likely to be better than the B-Wing's.

With a red 3-bank, I'm betting the dial is pretty ugly.

I hope it is, at least. I kinda don't want to see a whole bunch of these everywhere. Zuckuss is my favorite bounty hunter it will be weird to see four G-1A starfighters across the table. There is only one Mist Hunter! I'll probably only field this craft if Zuckuss or 4-LOM is the pilot (and never both in the same squad).

I always thought it was pretty weird that they would release ships where there's only really 1 known pilot ever. =/

I think a Bwing is a fair comparison thus far but I think the way the title was designed it makes more likely that the G-1A won't be spammed like Bwings.

This is a creative way to encourage a single G-1A. The title is attractive and efficient. A non-titled version would suffer by comparison if two were on the table together.

@ WWHSD: Your right that it's tempting to load up the great slots but the ship's defenses can't support that.

It all comes down, oddly enough, to just what Zuckuss's ability was worth.

If the PS3 generic comes in at 23pts, we've got a solid B-wing-but-not. Interestingly, at PS3, it'll be the equal of the upgraded B-wings, even if naked will stay less popular. ~25pts has always been a sweetspot for B-wings, affording FCS, AdvS, or Tactician (with the modification). These would effectively come in with the B-2 modification built in, and a point of PS to compensate. Crucially, it's the predator-proofing point, so it might actually be useful to have.

I really, really hope they come in at 23. That would be 'buy two' on the spot for me. I'm also hoping for a white hard 1... but that seems almost traditional in Scum at this point, eh? ;)

I just realized that Zuckuss may be the perfect place to use Juke. With the crew and system slot there's plenty of options for him to modify attacks without needing to spend an action. He can use his action to Evade. If he's firing at a ship with no focus tokens Juke reduces the targets defense by more than having his ability add an extra green die will. I'll take 5 red dice against 4 green dice any day, doubly so when the target has no focus tokens and one evade result will get dropped.

So what current ship dial would it need to have to be competitive? Z-95 with a longer K?

Honestly? A hairs more white than a B would do fine.

Like I say, I'm kind of expecting to see a B-wing with white Hard 1s, even if it lands up with red 2s in its place. It would fit the 'standard scum' dial to date; after that it's a question of just where the reds are and what the K-turn looks like.

I'm expecting a cross between the B-wing and the HWK-290, as far as dials go. I feel like between the tractor beam, the 3-red-bank, and what Alex Davey said about 4-LOM's ability*, it seems like a good support ship. But then the three dice is necessary because it doesn't have a cannon, nor does it have a turret. So while it looks like a B-wing in its stats. I suspect a more hwk-like dial. And this also makes sense when you consider that this not supposed to be a starfighter -- it's a transport. Zuckuss and 4-LOM need to transport bounties in this ship. I just see a lot of similarities between those two ships.

*Alex Davey said he liked 4-LOM's ability because it's annoying and just messes with people. The way he described it made it sound like a lot of the Scum HWK-290 pilots' abilities.

The dial/point cost will really be where it's at. If it has a hwk dial I'll have to pass, if it's a b wing dial with a 3k I'm in. If the generic is 22 or even 23 points I'll definitely fly it as a piece in a scum control list. I'm kinda eager.

Also what others have said about juke is totally right, this will be a really cool home for the upgrade.

You need four $20 Myst Hunter Expansion packs...

You will give Fantasy Flight Games all your money for X-wing ships...

:P

Really looking forward to this ship - this and the JM5K.

Cloaking Device will be a fun (and pretty powerful) upgrade for N'dru, TBC and the Virago, and I can't wait to try out some of the combinations...

Only pity is that Cloaking Devices are unique, eh?

As for the dial: HWK with white 1 hard turns, perhaps? Hm, no, that would be more agile than a B-wing. Tricky.

I've been looking for a ship to play the Juke/Sensor Jammer combination, and Zuckuss might just be that. Combine it with Outlaw Tech or a K4 Security Droid depending on dial to maintain offensive output and it could be pretty nice I think. (If expensive).

It's failure rate is a larger problem than its uniqueness. Having a 25% of a failure that causes the cloak effect to come off and forces you to discard the card is going to relagated this upgrade to GTFO usage instead of being a card you can really build a list around.

Pffffft, what a load of claptrap. It's 2 points, has a FANTASTIC upside, and competes in the same slot as a number of one use or disposable upgrades.

If you're trying to build a list around a 2 point upgrade card, then you deserve to fail.

It's basically a cheaper Stealth Device packaged with the ability to reposition by decloaking. I say it looks pretty **** good.

Better than - as it can actually be used in conjunction with a Stealth Device if you're really that confident in your green dice.

The absolute worst case scenario with the Unreliable Cloaking Device © - you get +2 green dice for one round of combat. So, that could be TBC or Guri with six green dice at range three for the opening exchange.

Best case scenario? 2 extra green dice for one round of combat, reposition prior to next round's movement, rinse, repeat. That's a HUGE potential boost to ships with no current repositional ability (Z-95's, Kihraxz), especially when you compare it to the 4 point Engine Upgrade or 2 point Expert Handling. And it doesn't take up that valuable Elite Talent or Modification slot, either.

Compare it to other current Illicit Upgrades - Hot Shot Blaster (more expensive, one use then discard), Glitterstim (one use, causes stress), Inertial Dampners (causes stress), Dead Man's Switch (only kicks in if you kick the bucket), Feedback Array (awesome upgrade, but causes damage & ion) and you'll see that not only is it very reasonably costed, but actually a really good option for elite pilots over the alternatives.
