Duplicates of CR90 or Neb-B expansion?

By D503, in Star Wars: Armada

Hi!

I usually get one of each expansion, but I can get either a 3rd CR90 or a 3rd Neb-B.

Which would you recommend and why?

I would say go CR90. The base is 44 points which means you can rock out 3 of them for 132, its roughly 1/3 your army size so you have a ton of room for goodness. It is an excellent swarm ship type and can be used to ping at ships removing their tokens before your heavy hits go. Also there is a better chance a 3 dice roll will be allowed through when the bigger ships can throw more dice and you want to save tokens for that.

I have always loved swarms and the CR90 achieves that.

I don't think you would ever field 3 Nebs at once but the cards are better in the neb than the CR90 though. And you may buy another CR90 for a trio which is okay. Ask yourself if your ever gonna field 3 of them in one match and take into account the cards too. How many Rebel fighters you got btw?

I love my Nebs and I would recommend the Neb for the cards.

But TallGiraffe is right. Think what you would fly 3 of. Is 3 Nebs or 3 CR90s more your thing to fly?

i love my 3 neb build!

I am working with JJs Juggernaut on a MC30 and Neb-B list. . .

REBEL FLEET (396 points)

1 • Nebulon-B Escort Frigate - Yavaris (62)

2 • Nebulon-B Support Refit - Mon Mothma - Redemption (89)

3 • Nebulon-B Support Refit - Raymus Antilles - Projection Experts (64)

4 • MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63)

5 • MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63)

6 • B-wing Squadron (14)

7 • B-wing Squadron (14)

8 • YT-1300 (13)

9 • B-wing Squadron (14)

The Neb B expansion has those XI7 Turbolasers, and it's currently the only place to get them. They are insanely good. Probably one of the best upgrades in the game.

To answer the OP, it all depends upon style. 3 Nebs can be a formidable long distance threat so long as the flanks are covered. BUT they operate unlike most other rebel ships. They want to face the enemy but stay at long range. I like to run mine at speed two while banking a first turn navigate token. This allows me good turning on approach, and then the ability to throttle down if I think a prolonged engagement is in my favor, or throttle up if I need to get out of dodge.

Or you can get a corvette which plays more friendly with the Mk2s and MC80s.

I have played wave 1 three Neb lists to good effect. The above list is the one I want to try when I get the new ships. Double tap Yavaris Bs are powerful, the other Nebs pass out defensive buffs and the two MC30s are meant to protect flanks and then crash in to screen the Nebs. Against an Akbar line the MC30s are meant to get out in front of the line and disrupt it while the Nebs come around. I may need to switch up the Bs to H-6s or Y-wings to keep up better against Akbar line. Against an Akbar line I will probably start the Neb at speed 3 for maximum speed and maneuverability.

If none of this sounds like your style, go with the third corvette. This isn't the only way to play a Neb, but just know they require adjusting play style.

One more point. An often under appreciated aspect of the Neb is that it's the only ship with double brace. Expect to see a bunch of accuracies in wave two (Home One and lots of dice). The extra brace is *sort of* like a built in ECM. In the list above, the lack of redirects is partially helped by Redemption, shields being passed around, and Mon Motha. And the good thing about shields being passed is they happen on a different ship activation. So if they attack one ship, that ship can activate and repair. Then they attack the same ship again. Now the ship with projection experts can go to add a couple more shields to the ship being focused fired on.

Nice. I also like the idea that the escort cruiser has wide arcs and 2 anti-squadron dice. 2 or 3 of them will set up a pretty ferocious crossfire.

With Intel officer no less. The no.1 combination in the meta right now. I think it will have to be Nebulons, for this reason.

The CR90 has Leading Shots up grade, not sure if that comes anywhere else. You are more likely to run three of them than the Nebs.

i love my 3 neb build!
