Future Waves?

By KILODEN, in X-Wing

I personally think that they will be holding to movie and Rebels ships in future waves.

meaning that the gunship and firespray that a lot of people want to see will probably not happen for a very long time.

for instance, the new shuttle from the pre-views and the heavy duty tie with turret

Yep

Could've sworn that in an interview, Alex Davy said they were still going to draw from the EU. Besides, we aren't getting new ships fast enough to do 2 waves a year.

That seems pretty likely. However, the most recent Rebels trailer has a ship in it that looks a lot like the Scurrg H-6, which is a ship I've seen fans asking for around here. It's possible that Rebels or the new movies will be used as a place to feature some existing EU ships, thereby bringing them into the new canon and drawing fan attention to them. Then, they can be sold as toys and as minis for this game.

He did.

Yeah no EU ships are going no where learn to deal people.

I have no doubt the old legends will be drawn for inspiration. However, i suspect much of it will be for the Scum and Villainy faction. The Rebel and Resistance faction as well as the Empire and First Order will provide lots of new ships in the shows and movies.

I disagree.

The Mist Hunter and the Punishing One in wave 8 should be evidence enough that this just isn't happening.

I do believe that eventually there will be EU ships. But with the Star Wars Revival that we are seeing with the new trilogy (and extra movies) it makes complete sense for FFG to ride that wave (pun intended) and widen their marketing. I am all for FFG being a successful (read profitable) company, being around for a long time and being able to afford to gamble on the more minor things (read less profitable) we want.

It does make sense... but they may not have enough ships just TFA and Rebels for full waves. The rest will come from Legends and new comics/books/games.

I disagree with OP. Look at wave 8: two ships from the old EU, two from TFA and two from Rebels. I think this trend will continue with us getting more ships from TFA with glorious sprinkles of the EU.

He did. Scum and Villainy Episode 18 @ 48:30

What ship's are left:

Kylo`s shuttle

Tie cog

That's not a waves worth of ships is it.

Rogue one is set in gcw so we already have ships from that era already.

Rebels has already been covered.

If they want to keep up two waves a year they need the EU.

If it's a) Star Wars, B) in the right general size range, and C) someone on the design team (or the CEO of FFG) thinks it's cool, FFG will do everything they can to get it in the game.

Disney isn't stupid. If a team with a track record of making Star Wars fans even more passionate comes to them and says "we think this is cool", Disney will listen very carefully.

We don't even have the TIE Avenger and Assault Gunboat.

Concerning the Force Awakens, and lack of ships, I read that what we have been shown so far all takes place in the first 3rd of the movie. This means the leaked fighter Lego set, likely takes place in a later act - which also means there are likely more ships in the movie.

We don't even have the TIE Avenger and Assault Gunboat.

The TIE avenger is mostly known for the aft turret, correct? Or am I thinking of a different TIE?

Given that the Special Forces TIE from the Force Awakens has a similar feature, I honestly believe that we will recieve that ship in the game while the avenger that occupies the same niche, but from the old legends, will not be done.

Now that the new canon is entrenching itself, we will get fewer and fewer EU options, especially if there is a TV or Feature film craft that is similar in style or substance.

That's a different TIE variant that has a rear gun/turret. That one is cool too.

TIE Avenger looks like an Interceptor or TIE Advanced with pointy wings both forward and backwards.

The tie avenger was the production model of the tie advanced, quad lasers and superior speed made it a deadly dog fighter.

The tie cog is not in the same niche at all.

What's more they would be throwing away money by not making fan favourite ships that have been popular for two decades.

I'm expecting another ship(s) from Rebels, another (or two) from TFA, and something from EU.

.... The comics and Aftermath (book by Chuck Wending) could end up being sources for new ships come next year too.

I'll keeping holding my breath, hoping for an Assault Gunboat and a YT-2000. Maybe one day...or...maybe not.

Okay, i got my legends variants mixed up. The main point still applies though: If a new fighter from the television shows or movies shows up that is similar to an old legends fighter, FFG will use the more recognizable craft.

It is very likely that TFA will have more than enough ships to do 2 waves of sets. Here's why.

Using the ever-helpful Wookieepedia for reference (particularly the object appearances section at the bottom of each article) we posit a trend in unique ship appearances over the course of the original trilogy, and the EU.

A New Hope, being the first produced movie, introduced 4 small ships able to be used in X-Wing: the TIE, the TIE Advanced, the X-Wing (duh), and the Y-wing. It also had one Epic-sized ship, the CR-90, and one large ship, the YT-1300. That's one movie with no EU, with ships for 1.25 waves and an Epic release.

The Empire Strikes Back, being the second in the series, required fewer new ships. Once again in terms of X-Wing sized ships, it introduced the: Lambda, Firespray, TIE Bomber, and GR-50 transport. Total: .75 waves, 1 Epic Release.

Now that you've got the idea, let's go fast. You ready?

Get set.

Go.

Return of the Jedi: A-Wing, B-Wing, TIE Interceptor. Total .75 Waves.

Dang, you're fast. But we're out of movies. FFG says 1,2 and 3 are a no-go, so let's tally. Original Trilogy, no EU = 2.75 Waves, 2 Epic releases, 2 Aces Expansions, and an extra .25 Wave for the Y-Wing Scum re-release.

Then we plug the gaps with the rich EU. But let's say that the Prequels were not off limits, we could use the appearance of new ships as a baseline for what we may see in a new trilogy; one with the benefit of high-budget cgi and 3-d modeling for quick ship creation.

Sound good? (I hope so, you can't very well reply before I post can you?)

Fast again. 3,2,1

The Phantom Menace: Consular-class space cruiser, J-type 327 Nubian starship, Gozanti cruiser, Sheathipede-class transport shuttle, N1 starfighter, Star Courier (Darth Maul), Vulture-class droid fighter. Total: 1 Wave, 3 Possible Epic choices.

Attack of the Clones: Nantex-class territorial defense starfighter, Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor, Punworcca 116-class interstellar sloop, Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry (Works in space as transport and boarding vessel), H-type Nubian yacht, Firespray recolor (Jango), Action VI transport. Total: 1.5 Waves, 1 Possible Epic.

Revenge of the Sith: ARC-170 starfighter, Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor, V-Wing starfighter, Belbullab-22 starfighter, J-type star skiff, Theta-class T-2c shuttle, Porax-38 starfighter, Mankvim-814 light interceptor, Droid tri-fighter, HMP droid gunship. Total: 2.25 Waves.

*Whew*

So, just with movies now, we have a possible 4.75 four-ship waves, with 4 Epic choices, room for 4 Aces Expansions spanning all three factions.

No EU yet.

If this upward trend of starfighter appearances continues, we could expect about 1.75 - 2 Waves, and 2 Epic Choices from The Force Awakens alone.

And remember, since this is an Abrams movie (and J.J. likes him some ships) we are likely to see the upper half of that estimate if not more.

(Edit. One wave = four large/small ships.)

EU ships are going to appear in the movies and TV shows, making this a non-issue.

We are almost certainly not getting epic ships from the new movies for years to come. They may add on to the two per faction formula that they seem to be following, but let's be real here, epic is an afterthought and not a huge seller.
