Upcoming Product Question

By LordBritish2, in X-Wing

Is this a hoax? Please provide where you got this information.

Doesn't look like it's third party. The Alliance promotion email has them listed as:

FFG SWX 49 Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game: Rebel Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kit $9.95

FFG SWX 50 Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game: Imperial Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kit $9.95

FFG SWX 51 Star Wars X-Wing Miniatures Game: Scum and Villainy Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kit $9.95

"The Alliance promotion email"

Unless someone can come and saw they got the same e-mail but it did not include this info...

Hey, those sound like cardboard-only products.

Personally I'll be very surprised if it includes any game affecting changes to the dials. My money's on cosmetic and/or resilience changes.

Customize and enhance your maneuver dials as you declare your allegiance to the Rebel Alliance, the Galactic Empire, or the galaxy`s Scum and Villainy with three new Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kits for X-Wing! Each kit includes three stylized plastic protectors to house your ships` maneuver dials. In addition, you`ll find dial ID tokens with ship icons to easily identify which dials match your ships in the heat of battle. See your whole dial, choose your maneuvers quickly, and play with style with the Maneuver Dial Upgrade Kits.

This is a Distributors description posted on FB to a group that Im in. As you can see each pack will contain 3 plastic protectors of some kind that will also have ID tokens to identify which ship the dial is for. Also it will somehow allow you to see your whole dial while planning your manuevers.

So it sounds like the dials will be converted into something like the Armada Command Dials where you can see all of the options at once and highlight one of them. That's good.

Not sure what to make of the bit where it states "you'll find dial ID tokens with ship icons" though. How are they going to handle this? Will the upgrade kits come with tokens for every ship that's been released so far and then all new ships going forward come with their own?

A wing dials for "Everyone"..lol seriously I hope its not some universal configurable dial!!! I have enough trouble keeping track of my own "Upgrades" during a game I don't need to try to figure out if I have the correct dial dialed in!! or my opponents!! If they are specific for a ship or upgrades for certain ships I will bee all over that!! maybe they are electronic and make pew pew and space ship noises when you flip them face up lol and yeah this will probably be the BIG news drop this Friday!!! lol

Updated Defender dial, Updated Defender dial, Updated Defender dial, Updated Defender dial, Updated Defender dial...... Pleeeeaaaase let it be!

Yeah about time their white k-turns were red!

If this is a real thing - don't trust the internet - I think its has to be something like the outer half of the armada dials, to insert the maneuver side of the cardbord dial. Everything else would be kind of stupid, as there are upcomming waves in the future, wich will likely come with cardboard dials. Otherwise each new ship would have to come either with the new kind of dials, or at least the maneuver part.

Oh, so it's a false alarm, no cardboard in these, just fancy plastic. You'll need 3 Imperial sets to run a proper TIE swarm too. Makes you wonder why they didn't start packaging the new core set with these 'protectors'.

Coloured bases and plastic inserts for dials. Have we reached "peak x-wing" and ffg is running out of new game concepts to take our money with?

Frank - "The tractor beam is all I can come up with. You got anything Alex?"

Alex - "Maybe a Twin TLT?"

Frank - "... really?"

Alex - "..."

Marketing - "How about adding some pretty colours?"

As an aside while coloured bases hold zero interest for me if FFG ever decides to release official acrylic tokens I'd be all over that.

Dollars.

I like stuff like this. It's entirely optional, but allows us some extra fluff to add to our games.

The only bad thing that could possibly happen here is getting an article for them before a Wave 8 preview.

You know it's going to happen too. It's TOTALLY going to happen. Why..... WWWWWHHHHYYYYYYY?????!!!

Just yesterday i bought me a 2nd Most Wanted. Stores are running out on them. I want to repaint more Z95s, its almost a shame to use the Black Sun black ones for that instead of the rebel white ones. But I want to have Scum dials to run them. Now i might reconsider, as its still shrinkwrapped. If one only knew more about the dial pack.

Modifyable dials would be a thing when you field Nien Nunb or Unhinged Astromechs. Both change your dial, actually. But difficult to prevent cheating....

I really don't think this is what we're getting. I think it will be a casing for existing dials.

Based on the product description I agree.

Okay so presuming we're correct and these are some kind of plastic housing for existing dials, what are people's thoughts?

Will you be buying them? Enough to cover all of your dials or just enough for a squad?

I doubt I would if it's just some sort of cover thing. But I'm also not going to bother buying the colored pegs. They look cool but I got plenty of pegs already.

That said, the idea that FFG would release something that changes the actual dial, by putting new maneuvers on them or something is so far fetched I'm a little surprised anyone thought of it.

My money is on something that kind of replicates the Armada Command Dials, meaning that it'll be a case of splitting your existing dial apart and only using the bit with the moves within the new plastic part. If that's the case then I don't think they'll be something you'd want to be stripping down regular and so I guess you'd be expected to buy one per ship you own.

That could get expensive very quickly I reckon but if these new things are really nice looking I could certainly be tempted.

With regard to the pegs, I already use custom painted bases but I'll probably pick up enough red ones to field any 100 point squad (so that's two packs isn't it?)

What about different colours of the 2 part black piece that holds the dials together? Or stickers for the backs so you know which dial is for which ship more easily?

It's two packs if you know you won't be using more than two large ships. If you want to do Triple Bounty Hunter or 4x Lambda, you'll need more large bases.

Not my image but saw it on Reddit. Looks fairly legit to me.
