Cargo capacity for ships

By korocite, in X-Wing

A friend and I are running our own little home made campaign. We both beginners, but like having a context and narrative to our games. Thus far it is working out well, despite our lack of experience with the X wing rules. We are both fans of the movie but have not really got into anything else Star Wars related so am lacking pretty much all the other knowledge that most forum users seem to have.

One of the non-storyline missions that can be played out of sequence is a raid. This involves an attacker declaring a raid on an enemy convoy. The defender is required to have a ship that has some sort of cargo carrying capacity in his list. The winner of the mission receives a bonus linked to how much cargo is being transported. So, I am attempting to compile a list of those ships that will suit and also give them a cargo capacity and am interested in the opinions of those more learned than I about the figures. Here is what I have so far. Feel free to throw in any opinions on the numbers.

HWK 290 - 5
Firespray - 2
YV-666 - 12
Y-wing - 2
YT-1300 - 12
YT-2400 - 10
Lambda shuttle - 8
Decimator - 4
TIE Bomber - 2
Jumpmaster - 8
Mist hunter - 4
Whilst the Y-wing doesn't really fit with the fluff, we imagined that it might have extra fuel tanks given its size (and we were lacking in other cargo ships at first).

Are we talking cargo like the ships gain cargo-slot upgrades, or just crates of victory points? I'm guessing VP.

Fluff-wise the numbers seem solid, the Corellian ships being converted merchantmen and whatnot. Gamewise not quite sure, but groups of small couriers should balance out the eggs-in-one-basket tanks. I think it'd be a fun play.

why does the firespray have 2

I'd guess the prisoner section. Gotta store your Solos somewhere.

Given the original role of prisoner transport, we figured it could have a small transport capacity.

Re. cargo crates and victory points, definitely the latter. The winner of the raid mission receives a currency bonus equal to cargo capacity. Currency is then used to upgrade the characters ship and pay ransoms.

Thank you both for the input!

Look at the size of the yv on wookiepedia. It should have more than anything else by a long shot. The ship is about half of the size it would be if it were made to scale.

It seems like you have a good feeling for the size of the ships, however I wouldn't really think the Y wing would have much at all. If you look at in real life size it's about similar to a jet fighter.

I'd throw the decimator into the mix, it is a very large ship, with at least the capacity of the YT2400.

If you're feeling more creative, you could use a TIE Bomber as a TIE transport and use the bomb pod as a cargo container.

If you're feeling even more creative, check out the XWing Coop campaign, Heroes of the Aturi Cluster. My brother and I have been playing it the past few weeks and it's incredible fun

Excellent call on the Decimator - the Imperials need some more love. Good thinking on the TIE Bomber also, though it would make sense to restrict its torpedo/bomb/missile capacity. Maybe a capacity of 2?

Re. co-op campaign, I am aware of it but have not explored it as yet. I figured there would be some level of complexity that would be an added challenge for us new players, but the complexity of our campaign is building anyway and we are coping fine. Maybe it is time to have a look.

Thanks!

I'm going to disagree with the HWK-290 having 6, way too much. The ship is a fast courier ship, think at most, a standard UPS truck.

Here is an RPG asset compilation. The FFG rpg has a value called "encumbrance" and that might help.

Personally, I'd bump the TIE Bomber, K-Wing, & other ordnance carriers up to a 4, set the Hwk-290 & Firespray at 6, and give all of the straight fighters (TIE/ln, X-Wing, M3-A, etc.) a 1 - just to represent the luggage rack/glovebox.

YV-666 is a light freighter; the Saga Edition RPG only gave stats for the Hound's Tooth, which had a fair amount of cargo space converted over weapons, leaving only 20 tons of cargo space. Personally, I'd drop its value down to 8 or 10, less than the Millennium Falcon for sure. Hwk-290 is a hotly debated one... legions of fans have nerd-raged over its dimensions & cargo capacity. It is supposed to a courier/freighter, albeit a sporty one.

One thing you might consider - the hands down, automatic winner of any contest concerning cargo capacity in this game would be the one who shows up with a GR-75 transport. A capacity of 19,000 metric tons of cargo puts it waaaaay out in front. That's more than six times as much as a CR90 Corvette.

Look at the size of the yv on the canon tab, not the legends tab.

The size of that this has changed.

That campaign is amazing. I haven't played a regular game since I found it.

I'm not sure I buy that much cargo capacity for the decimator. Yeah, it is a big ship, but it is a big, military, combat ship. it was likely designed for ultimate efficiency, with no wasted space at all. Crew members hot-bunking, when it first leaves port there are likely supplies stowed in the corridors. That sort of thing.

The decimator and HWK have been toned down a bit. The good arguments have convinced me that this is worthwhile and will work well with the mission itself.

I used to crew a Decimator as a gunner. You wouldn't believe how much junk you could fit in that thing. There's a ton of wasted space, it's almost appalling.

Actually it is appalling.

Way i'd do it is crew slots X 10 = cargo points.

Team slots X 50 = cargo points.

Cargo slots X200 = cargo points

So the CR90 and GR-75 are the real haulers.

For Bomb slots I'd also consider bomb slot X20 = cargo points. Because well, what can you put in there that's not a bomb?

The above numbers are purely arbitrary, and based on "that sounds about right" feel free to balance for taste.
