what is meant by "bid?"

By mikemcmann, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Newish player but interested in tournament play.

Does 'bid' mean the point value below the max fleet points? So if my fleet was 295 points, my bid would be 5?

Also, related question - how is tourney scoring done? Is the winner assigned the net difference in destruction points? I.e I kill 250 points of yours....and you kill 200 points of mine... My score is net 50? Is that then how match ups are assigned for succeeding rounds?

Thanks for the answers fellas

Mike

Yes. You would be 5 points under for your bid to choose who first player will be.

Yes, points are the difference between the winner and the loser

Tournament scoring is based on points measured from that difference rather than giving you the difference outright.

In your example your Margin of Victory is 50 points and your opponents Margin of Victory is 0. You would be assigned 6 tournament points and your opponent would be assigned 4 tournament points. Tournament points are used for rankings. Total Margin of Victory is used to break Tournament Point ties and Strength of Schedule used to break Margin of Victory ties.

FFG is testing software to calculate Strength of Schedule, but this is how it's manualy calculated for the moment.

From Tournament Rules v1.0.3 (v1.1.1 doesn't negate this method for the moment)

If two or more players have the same number of tournament points and have not won any games or are still tied after comparing their margin of victory, calculate each player’s strength of schedule by combining the total tournament points of all their opponents. The player whose opponents had the highest total combined tournament points (highest strength of schedule) is ranked first, the player with the second highest strength of schedule is ranked second, and so on.

Hi Mike,

You may want to read through the Tournament Rules PDF (the latest version can be found here ), which explains all this in depth. It also includes a table showing how the margin of victory translates into tournament points. Do bear in mind, however, that as soon as Wave 2 hits US stores, fleet sizes will increase to 400 points, so the table will almost certainly be adjusted.

Awesome!

Thanks for the answers, tips and links guys. Much appreciated!

Doesn't the new tournament season start soon?

Doesn't the new tournament season start soon?

In the US, "When Wave 2 is Released."

Outside of the US, its up to the TO (apparently in conjunction with the Distributor) to state when Wave 2 is official for Tournaments.

But most will go with the US Release unless there's a serious, serious delay.

Awesome.

Wave two is tentative for this month or November, right?

As much as "On the Boat" can be determined, yes.

Hehe... Got it..

So "anytime between now and he'll freezing over..." Is fairly accurate?

I prefer something terrestrial as a Measure...
