Wave 2 - It's A Trap

By SmurfWedge, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Hey all

With wave 2 due out in the next few weeks I've had a play around with a new Rebel Fleet with my main man Ackbar. This will probably be the first fleet I playtest. Assistance and comments welcome.

REBEL FLEET (400 Points)

1 • MC80 Assault Cruiser - Admiral Ackbar - Home One - Advanced Projectors - Electronic Countermeasures - Raymus Antilles - H9 Turbolasers (187)

2 • Assault Frigate Mark II B - Advanced Projectors - Gunnery Team (85)

3 • Assault Frigate Mark II B - Advanced Projectors - Gunnery Team (85)

4 • YT-2400 (16)

5 • YT-2400 (16)

6 • A-wing Squadron (11)

Objectives - Advanced Gunnery - Fire Lanes or Fleet Ambush - Dangerous Territory

I run something similiar now. Vics will cry from Home One as it fires that brace and makes sure it never gets another job.

I haven't found needing ECMs just yet and I've never been a fan of the H9s. If you use them normally right now keep them if not try to use those points elses where.

I won't say much on squardons as some people might bring a few making grin worth the points

As for Objectives:

Fleet ambush lets you shot more sooner and can really mess with an Imperial Formation. But I've never had luck with Fire Lanes

I would propose Minefields. It lets you set up all the obsticals and place mines down that deal damage card right through sheilds. That can really mess up a formation or a mass of smaller ships.

Thanks for the advice mate.

The only reason I felt the need to put H9s on was that the MC80 doesn't benefit from the Home One title so thought H9s would be good so that it gets that accuracy too. Haven't run them before and also never run ECM previously.

I think Fleet Ambush will be the way to go. Get some of the ships into harms way ASAP before the rest get into range.

Been thinking and I like this better.

Dropped H9s and Awing Squadron and added Xi7s to all ships. Home One title ignoring Brace and Xi7s stopping a lot of damage being redirected. Quite potent I think.

I like that fleet. I want to try it this Friday but swapping out for B-wings or X-Wings because I don't have 2 YT-2400. Might switch the XI7 for Projection Experts simplily because I like them

If I play I'll tell you how it goes.

Sweet. Looking forward to hearing how it goes

Objective was Minefields.

Imperial players played very defensive frequently not moving to force me to move to him and hit some mines in the process. For little effect.

The imperial moved to focus my fleet on him and was set to repair each turn. His gladiators were held in reserve till turn 5. Bombers for both sides just blocked each other without any real effect on the flight.

Over the course of the battle the MC80 kept one of my goldfish alive since it had effectively given it 10 shields during the fight and was the only reason it didn't die. The ISD was focusing my Af and had stripped away 4 defense tokens by turn 5. Which it died finally with each ship throwing dice at it since turn 3.

Home one and dice rolls of acc generally just prevented the ISD and glad from burning any tokens but still forced damage through to hull.

Dice rolls were pretty even for both sides except a bad one that let an AF live on turn 4. If it had died the result could have been different but with the loss of the ISD on turn 5 the imperial player called the game. It was a good fight.

This is almost identical to my planned build. I sub ECMs in place of the APs on the AFIIs, use Redundant Shields in place of APs on the MC80, and use an Intel Officer on the MC80 in place of Raymus and XI7s. Let me know how you do. I'm most worried about opponent squadrons and the slow speed of the MC80. That Intel Officer could easily become Engine Techs.

It's a pretty good list. You can see what I did earlier today already. I played another game with similar effects except the MC80 being focused down more then an AF. Still won it but the MC80 barely lived with 1 hull left and no shields.

Thanks for the update on your games mate.

Give me some confidence with this build when my wave 2 stuff arrives.

Yeah I think engine techs will be a good thing to look at. Good advice.
