Roll20 Resources

By Gregor Eisenhorn, in Dark Heresy General Discussion

I agree Fog - let me know - though I am really focused on getting TOKEN options done for my Players - lots of factions = lots of work ugggh

I am toying with various methods by which to produce these tokens - ATM I am vector tracing the Small 20 x 30 Vassal sprites into 200 x 200 tokens - my results are kinga primitive though as you can see by my example

Ideally I'd like to be able to produce tokens like this quality

I'll do what I can with vassal. The forums are still going. I'll do what I can. I saw a video of them making an attack bike on youtube once.

At this point I my tokens look like this ... I'm not quite sure why you are so into the overhead perspective.

I thought I would add this experiment to our thread.

To Games Work Shop / FFG

I just spend over $600 commissioning "tokens" from an artist - too bad the two of your companies can't get your ducks in a row and figure out a way to deliver on customer needs / wants - I hope Star Wars and Age of Sigmar bring you caviar dreams and champagne wishes - FIN (P.S. I heard it wasn't easy pleasuring the Queen )

On a side note - I am toying with my graphics to see what I can develop myself

Wow, it's excellent to see people actively contributing more images for the community to use.

MorbidDon, do you have a link to those 40k Vassal sprites? Those could come in really handy.

I just doing them one at a time by hand (while at work lol)...

I'm not an artist per say so I'm really just going through trial and error with each part of the token (i.e. arm, head, etc) - I really wish I could draw tho

I'd love to share my tokens with you guys as I produce them - no sweat

Check out these - I wish I could do this quality of art...

Thanks fog, much appreciated.

I want to make a token of the Avatar (picture) you're using Gregor (cloaked guy - ecclessiarchy) - I feel the top down portion of his hood would look really nice!

Here's the latest on the Administratum type (as seen above in my post) - this is my friend's artwork - not mine, all I'm doing is guiding him since he's never done tokens before...

Talk to you all later - Morbid

If you guys at FFG or Gamesworkshop want to hire me and my guy - send a msg...

Heh, they probably won't because of roll20 but if FFG did do an online RPG tool for running of games of their 40kRPGs with all the required art components I'd squee with joy.

Ahem, I mean, grunt my approval...

If I woulda hit the Powa Ball that just passed my money would be opening the corporate doors "this very week" LMFAO

OK here's a map I made this week for an upcoming DH game I got planned...

Let me know how you used the map in YOUR game / campaign (this interests me greatly)

50 X 50 Map - this is how I play DH online...

That's about what I use too. Most of my bigger battle maps are about 75 x 75 squares, but the standard map is about 50 x 50. I used to be in the 50 x 50 region, but I reduced the size of my tokens and grid about 6 months ago. It's not enough space for tanks and infantry to interact too much, but it lets fast players run around a bit.

Great maps you two, I was happy with the one I made for the final encounter in Dark Pursuits but yours blow me away!

Fog, your scale settings are really handy- I'm going to try and that range at some point although I'm about to run Desolation of the Dead which doesn't have particularly huge combats in it (except perhaps the last).

I got "around" the reduced battlefield experience by implementing these House Rules

Granted I do not play with nor play battles on the "grid" when vehicles are the focus (for that I go back to Narrative Time)

I make smaller stuff. For smaller battles and 'cut-scenes' I use

1 unit = 1 m

Grid Size 1 unit

I've always had an obsession with resolution. Part of it is I did a lot of work in fabrication a few years ago. You don't get to my level of map making though without a lot of practice. Using unit = 2 m Grid Size .5 though was the final culmination of many failed experiments. It works well with the 256 x 256 tokens I use. I'd actually like to use an even smaller squares, but roll20 seems to not want me zooming any further. This graphic should explain why I use the resolutions I use. I use a lot of 'status effects' too, which compounds the problem.

Basically, 2/.5 lets players zoom in and out pretty efficiently. You've always got to remember you are designing for your worst players setup. Some of my players are on laptops.

Off topic I hope someone can mod or make an online system ala X-com albeit where we can plug in our own models like astartes, humans, admech, everything 40k...

It's not impossible, but there would need to be very serious interest. It's also probably an IP nightmare.

Soo I got to thinking - what if I post up a "layered" PNG map - and you guys populate the middle of it with "stuff" - lets see what we can come up with in GIST...

Who's up for the challenge - I got a pleasure world Battle Map ready to go 50 x 50 but it needs "dressing" aka cover and opportunities for strategic action.

MAP FILE Here

If you require certain assets from this map as a single file - let me know - I can post it

Sample MAP

Looking forward to some collaborative action!
