Will the old Core Set be updated...

By TheRealStarkiller, in X-Wing

Maybe FFG needs to release the damage deck as it's own stand alone expansion pack, I get they probably won't do that, but if they are forcing people to buy the new core set just because of the new damage deck and that's all the competitive players are interested in, then maybe they should take action.

If competitive players aren't interested in the ships and upgrades in the expansion core set it's because they are ineffective. We all know what happens when a ship is proven ineffective...

Yes, it is nickel hunting from a competitive standpoint only. Then again, most people I know play it competitively.

That's not the same thing as "most people." Also, as I said, it's not like competitive players even need to make all those purchases either.

Yes, I suppose you are right. Still, people who are in for competitions are more likely to want to own all ships and be able to play them in tournaments, in my opinion.

What if Rebel Aces II and Imperial Aces II, included all the exclusive things from the original core set and the original core set got EOL.

I was under the impression that the new core set was updated and it is now the core set with the TIE/FO and the T70....

Am I missing something here? I've played years of MTG (which releases a new 'core set' every **** year) so I was under the impression that the new Xwing core set is the starter set to get yourself going now, the other ships are not obsolete, unless of course you want the core set with the xwing and ties, rather than fo and t70.

I get it has the new updated rules and updated damage deck which I was told was going to be the new damage deck for use in the tournaments now, as well as 3 new ships to make it worth the purchase (which to me it is). FFG has to travel down a long dark path in order for it be like GW, so lets not get crazy here.

It is but FFG is still reprinting the classic core set for products supply sake. However, and I don't have the source on me so take this information as hear-say, an FFG spokesperson says there is no plans for changing any of the components for reprinted X-wing products. So old core set will still have the old damage deck (which will be illegal to use in 2016), TIE Phantom will still have the old decloak rules supplement reference card. and the only way to get TIE-1x title will be purchasing the Imperial Raider epic pack.

If you are starting (or know of someone starting) X-wing then the Episode VII core set is the place to start. As for the classic core set it is best to consider it like an expansion pack similar to the Most Wanted pack with only dice and maneuver templates and not scum.

TIE Phantom will still have the old decloak rules supplement reference card.

I'm pretty sure that's not true. I know I've seen people here who have said they have bought expansions with cards that have been corrected.

That is not the same as a new damage deck, and no where near the same as the X1 title however. Myself I think FFG is consumer friendly enough, that they wouldn't keep producing a core set with a unuseable damage deck. But one could argue that the deck is still useable, just not in all cases.

I can confirm that new phantoms right now have the updated cards.

I doubt this will happen. Keep the old damage deck for those that might still want it.
