You can use Squad Leader to give lower Pilot Skill /enemy/ ships free actions.

Any possible way to actually gain an advantage from this? You can't dictate what the action would be, but I imagine there could be some situations where your opponent would jump at the chance to do a free barrel roll and end up putting himself in a bad spot.

Can you do anything with this other than tricking your opponent into doing a boost that's bad for them or whatever? With Bossk crew you gain a lot from missing, so maybe feeding your opponent a free defensive action would help.

Seems useful for trolling though.

Well, for the moment, let's assume that this works (and let's be honest here, FFG would probably errata "friendly" onto the card the moment we ask if it actually does).

If we assume it does work, then I also think it's a safe assumption that there is literally no situation in which it is a good idea. I would hope that most opponents aren't silly enough to BR/boost into a bad spot, and even if they've used up all of the non-BR/boost actions you still can't force them to do it, as Squad Leader says the ship "may perform a free action." Your opponent can always say "Yeah, no."

So that's out. What about tricking the opponent into taking extra defence? Well, again, this isn't going to work if your opponent is halfway-competent. If you're trying to get Gunner and/or Bossk shenanigans going, then they're more likely to use the token to rig your attack so they only wear a point or two of damage. And now we have opened up a worst case scenario in which the opponent doesn't need to spend tokens on his defence roll, and then shoots back with the Focus token you so kindly provided.

Therefore, no, there is no way to gain advantage from this against a competent opponent. Even if FFG allows it to work.

Huh. I never noticed that before.

Boost/roll an enemy ship into an asteroid? :P

EDIT: Dr4co is right, the word "may" spoils the potential for trolling.

I guess you could do it to help your buddy save his ship from going off the table during a round of Hunger Games... you might get run outta town pretty quickly afterwards, though. ;)

The only benefit I could possibly see is tricking them into feeding Palob.

That's all I could come up with also.

"Oh, thank you for this free Target Lock."

Non-standard formats with more than two players are probably the only time that I can see this particular application being useful. Grant actions to ships that are going to attack or be attacked by the ships that you see as the biggest threat to you.

In games where you get a single ship the normal application of Squad Leader is useless but ones that allow you to run multiple ships might be worth it.
