Ozzel and Nav Team

By BiggsIRL, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Got a card interaction that seems iffy.

Admiral Ozzel and Nav Team affecting the same ship. Ship spends a navigate token to change its yaw - Ozzel should not take effect because Nav Team says you can change your speed OR increase yaw.

Counterpoint - Ozzel should take effect, because it says that if you use a navigate command, you can change your speed by an additional one (so 0 to 1).

What do you guys think?

If you use the navigate command to change speed then Ozzel can take affect.

Yes. It does not say "When a friendly ship changes speed...", it says "When a friendly ship resolves a Navigate command...". So when you spend a Navigate token to resolve a Navigate command, Ozzel triggers regardless of whether you have Nav Team, Engine Techs, or whatever.

(EDIT: This would not be the case if the Nav Team card said "Your [Navigate] tokens can increase your yaw by 1. If you choose to increase your yaw this way, you cannot change speed." But it doesn't say that.)

You can do both options---nav teams and ozzels. Using one option does not negate the other option. So you could increase speed by 2 or increase yaw by 1 and speed by 1.

Just curious, what is it that's giving you pause to question this?

Maybe that with yularen you could navigate however you want and keep the dials with concentrate fire every time as if you were resolving a navigate and a cf dials (cf or whatever). Even without yularen it is interesting to resolve "two dials" in one round.

I think engine techs still better but it could be a cheaper option.

Wait. . . Only the GSD can take Nav Team and be used with Ozzel. . .
