Shields

I think if you want stronger shields than 6 with the current dials you'll need to venture into special rules. It would be interesting to see a ship with maximum 2 or 3 shields on a facing, but a special rule that you half the effect of damage on shields.

I'd think of the Interdictor-Class SD as a candidate for 6-shield ship. It can already warp spacetime so it's likely to have the power to generate that amount of shields as well.

That would be a pretty big departure from fluff, though. They aren't outfitted as battleships like even ISDs are.

I think it is likely we will see 4 as the maximum regular shield value with the ISD and MC80 out now, but maybe we will see some upgrade cards like:

Advanced shield projectors you may treat one of you shield facings maximum setting as increased by one.

Or an advanced shield capacitor: (Engineering command) When recovering shields on one shield facing, your shield value may go one value higher than its maximum rating.

Basically one that buffs a facing for the entire game, the other allows you to temporarilly boost a shield facing, both could potentially stack for a value of 6 on a facing at a given point in time, but this would be rare.

Thats the way I would play it if I was FFG though, rather than releasing ships that are tougher than the ones we already have in the game.

Goes well with its special rule that lets you 1-shot ram ISD's. Bah.

Quoted for truth, sadly. I found a lot of the EU plotlines came down to "and then the bad guys built another Death-Star-style super weapon, because that will never get old, will it?"

I was really hoping when the game was being spoiled and such you could re-allign you shields from the back to the front and stuff. Just like how it works now with moving shields but let you go above your limit to 6 but then have a rule that states ships can never have more than the max number they start with. so if a ship is 3/3/3/1 then it can only ever have 10 shields and maybe you see like 6/2/2/0.

Maybe it makes ships too hard to kill, not sure.

Just like how it works now with moving shields but let you go above your limit to 6 but then have a rule that states ships can never have more than the max number they start with. so if a ship is 3/3/3/1 then it can only ever have 10 shields and maybe you see like 6/2/2/0.

Maybe it makes ships too hard to kill, not sure.

Probably. You could use Repair commands to move shields around before getting hit. That leads to less damage getting through, fewer (default) crits, and so a slower game.

Plus it's a bit more balance for broadsiders. Imagine circling with your whale that has 8-9 shields on its combat side.

The only things that allow dice at different ranges are the ship cards for the rebels and the opening salvo mission.

We should all know if it makes ships harder to kill, as this is essentially exactly how the redirect defence token works.
