What kind of games would yoi recomend to teach some one using the new core set
New core set
The included missions are a great place to start.
Im not real big into the missions my son wants to learn how to play i have most of the ships in the game
Just use a few ships each to start and have him learn the flying and basics first, then introduce upgrade cards, missiles, bombs and such as you go.
The coop campaign is wonderful in that you can discuss the dials and go through the mechanics together.

Edited by LagJansonI'd probably start with 2-3 x-wings vs 4-6 TIEs. For the first 3 turns, don't use actions, stress, and maneuver difficulty. on turn 4 introduce actions, and on turn 6 introduce stress and maneuver difficulty.

This.
The game is pretty easy to learn if you do it in steps.
I probably should say that my son is 8
I'd look around your neighborhood and see if there is a comic book/game store that sells X-Wing stuff. Usually people who play will hang around there and they're a good source to learn.

My 8 year old daughter and I started just basic ships and pilots. No upgrades. So she could get used to flying and rolling dice.
Start basic, go easy. Do the 2 TIEs vs one X-wing beginners rules game, then the same setup with different ships. (I assume your son will want to get his favorite ship on the table as soon as possible: normally I'd go with the same X-wing vs TIEs setup with full rules or just actions next and then move to different ships, but hey: cool ships!)
After he gets a hang of coordinating different ships, add the actions, and then the upgrades. If he has a favorite (Defender, YV-2400, Headhunter) suggest some strong or fun builds for it, and most importantly don't be afraid to play around.

Like LagJanson said, download the co-op game then. I've been playing it with my 9 year old son and he adores it. He's already planning on how he's going to get to PS8 to get Ten Numb's ability. We've had a blast so far. Just a warning, dismiss the AI at your own peril, we tried a mission on the hard setting, it it opened a full can of whoop-ass on us.
Really good for introducing younger players, I can't recommend it enough.
We have a ten-year old kid at our FLGS who routinely decimates the rest of us "experienced" gamers, and he's been using Fat Dash & Corran as one build, or loaded Brobots as his other. I haven't had the heart to bring out the TLTs against him yet. But I will. ![]()
